Personal Reflection: What I Learned In The Workplace

Personal Reflection Regardless of whatever I do I always try to improve myself. I will never be perfect, but I will always continue to strive for perfection. I go out of my way to make sure that I am learning something almost everyday. I consider a day of leaning a successful day. Even if I learn how to use a new button on a copying machine, its still something new to me that I can use. Sometimes my motive for learning is not always because I want to become a better employee though, sometimes its because I want to protect my job. I try my best to remember that there is always someone out there who is trying to take my job. Employers want employees who do the most amount of work for the least amount of money. However employees thought process are the complete opposite. Employees want to do the least amount of work for the most amount of pay. I work with an indigent population so there is a high demand for caseworkers. I probably spend about three hours per week on crisis management. Unfortunately I don’t always clean as I go, with such a high demand it’s hard for me to clean as I go. We work with drug users, prostitutes and felons; In fact I have never had a client who did not have a felon. Learning to clean as I go would be really beneficial to me. Sometimes when I see a client waiting on my I feel as though I should rush in order to meet with them as soon as possible. I know that’s not the correct way of doing things, but I know how it feels to wait on someone and I don’t like it. This is a skill that I am working on and I am sure that I will become better at it overtime. Often times I put myself in my clients situation, when I should be more focused on what I am doing so I can provide better services to my

Project 2 contains information developed from the Pearson Higher Education Self-Assessment Library. A series of assessments were completed. The most significant information I learned is contained in step 1. Part I gave insights into my personality, that I am an agreeable person with a Type A Personality, and that my job satisfaction is overall low, even though I have high emotional intelligence and considered a leader overall. Part II shows that I need improvement in listening, faith in others, and disciplining skills.…

Professional Reflection From this course, there has been plenty of analysis of all the different theories, principles, techniques, and methods. I could probably pull something from every single one of these components of communication. Some of my strengths in this domain are establishing/completing priority assessments, evaluating/monitoring nursing actions, and completing thorough assessments on clients concerns. During a shift I worked with a client who had just had an abdominal surgery. Upon doing my head-to-toe, he expressed that he had numbness in his upper thigh. I assessed this further, asking him about when it started, when its numb, looked at his CSMW and circulation, as well as asked about pain and sensation. He explained that it began during the night and had persisted into the day.…

When given the assignment to discuss one active and one dead bill, I wanted to pick ones that I thought would be seen in my future as a social worker. I scrolled through bill after bill and finally decided on an active, approved by the governor bill: Senate Bill Number 2107. Since there were many more dead bills, it was harder to pick one, but I went with Senate Bill Number 2667. Senate Bill Number 2107 was approved by the Mississippi governor. It took effect on July 1, 2015 and requires “legislative drafting offices and state agency to use certain ‘person first’ references” (S. 2107).…

This class was beneficial to my future as a social worker. I was able to learn about different therapies I could potentially use when working with clients. When we were first assigned this paper I was a bit conflicted on what my theory was going to be since I felt that all therapies were important. But as we learned a little bit more in depth about how each of them worked I was able to relate to certain ones. The main therapies I’ll be using as a guide for my personal theory paper are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered, and Family/Systems Therapy.…

My goal as a social worker is to ensure the best quality of services for clients. I personally felt that this certain aspect of services needed evaluation due to the outcome treatment was having on the clients. At times this population of clients was struggling in their treatment more than other clients. The treatment team would evaluate treatment progress and if the client continued not to make any progress they would then decide if treatment was terminated. They would say the client is “not a good fit for the program”.…

When looking back at this whole semester, I would say that there were a few things that I did learn. Some subjects from the book definitely stood out more than others. A few key things that I can take with myself and be easily remembered. I believe that I have learned quite a few things about myself but more on the subject itself and how to handle certain situations. Taking this class I feel helped me to get a better look on how to deal with other people, learning to react to certain situations, and not everything is in your control.…

According to Boud, Keogh and Walker (1985), as cited in McLure, n.d, reflective practice enhances new understanding and learning based on one’s experience. Reflecting upon clinical performance is an integral part of teaching-learning process which is based on continuous assessment of progress and constructive feedback from the preceptor. Feedback on both strengths and weaknesses is expected as it promotes student’s insight into areas that require special attention and practice, and into evaluating the achievements (Duffy, 2013). I would like to illustrate in the light of an incident on how I could implement the strategies of supervision and feedback while orientating a newly recruited health care assistant in my practice setting. Involving…

Self reflection practices has been a integral part of my life in personal growth by learning about myself and prioritizing what I consider important. In my mid-thirties, I had a strong intuitive feeling that I was not living a fulfilling and purposeful life in accordance with my personal values. During this time I was working as an inbound customer service representative in a call center for a promotional product manufacturer. Although I enjoyed the daily interactions with customers via phone and the problem solving aspects of the job, it began lacking real tangible results that I would able to see in a face-to-face connection with clients. I had spent over ten years working as a customer service representative for various companies and never felt that this career path was in alignment with my life's purpose.…

Speaking of my health, it has seemed to be getting worse and worse each semester despite taking all the vitamins necessary and eating extremely healthy. This past interterm I lost around 10-15 pounds as I contracted gastritis, which is the inflammation of the stomach lining and esophagus. I had a few trips to the hospital due to vomiting of blood and the inability to keep down my food. I now have to take three medications in order to keep my stomach from flaring up again. I am just starting to keep all my food down without complications and remain around ten pounds lighter than I did last semester.…

This week’s reading, “The Social Construction of Unreality: A Case Study of a Family’s Attribution of Competence to a Severely Retarded Child” by Pollner and McDonald-Wilker, really made me question my entire life and the role that my family has had in my education. I am in my second year at UCLA with a full scholarship for tuition and very minimal loans. Granted I have had some ups and downs with my GPA, I have overall been managing my grades. As a student, you can say I have been quite successful.…
