College Application Essay: The Importance Of Studying And Education

Improved Essays
Duquesne was actually the last place I ever thought I would end up for college. I never wanted to stay close to home and the city did not seem like the right fit for me. However, once I discovered all the opportunities it had to offer I realized it did not matter that the city location wasn’t quite what I wanted and that home was only forty minutes away. It could give me what I really wanted and enjoyed – a high level, in-depth education.
The importance of studying and education was greatly stressed in my household from the time I was in kindergarten to when I was writing up college application essays, so for a while I thought my desire to succeed and get good grades stemmed from my parents always pushing me to do well. However, as I grew older and my parents did not feel the need to keep driving me to study and get ahead I realized that that want for knowledge and education was something that I had always possessed even before my parents started to influence my studying. I would read books upon books of stories of any kind without anyone forcing me to just because I loved to read and learn about new things or words.
The passion I had for education continued to grow and resulted in me taking more challenging and demanding classes in high school and now college. My love of learning and desire to become better educated is a very big reason that I will get out of bed to come to class every morning or skip that party to study. Duquesne is a way to better myself as a person and student and in the end the reason I came here was because it offers me a high level education. While passion for education is important, I do have a little more personal motives too.

One thing about me is that I hate to disappoint people. I did not come to school at Duquesne for my parents or anyone else but myself, however, one of the things that still motivates me to do well is that it will make my parents proud. They have always been extremely supportive of me and done everything they possibly could to help me succeed in all my endeavors. Now, I want to pay them back for everything they have done for me by doing well and making them proud. When I’m feeling like I cannot do something or my want to learn is seemingly nonexistent I think it will be the need to make my parents proud that will make me keep trying. Even though I hate to disappoint people, I also have this need to prove myself. Whether it be in sports and activities or academics I want to show others that I am in the more advanced class or on the varsity team because I belong there. By coming to class and completing all my responsibilities I will have a better chance of getting top grades and therefore showing anyone who doubts my abilities that I belong in the honors classes and in the Physician Assistant program. Ever since I was in elementary school I have always known that I wanted to help people and take care of them, and by being educated at Duquesne I can finally begin working towards that dream. The Physician Assistant program was the main reason I decided to come to Duquesne and everything I do here is so that I can finally do something meaningful with the talents and gifts

Going to college has been a hard decision to make for high school graduate students. “while the “opportunity costs” of spending four to six years earning a degree instead of working used to be balanced out by the promise of a “good job” after college that rationale no longer holds, especially for poor students” (McMillan 116). Things are just not the way they are being a high school student because now they have to worry about money for tuition, books, transportation, and room cost. Free college is necessary for students that really want to go to college to achieve their goals not worrying about tuition, books, transportation, and room cost, earn degrees for their jobs, and have education free of debts.…

7:20a.m. The exact time that the bell rang every single day to signal the beginning of AP Calculus. Surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the school, I realize that I had something in common with many of them— most of us are first-generation students whose parents immigrated into America to give their child an opportunity that was not offered to them as students, a valuable education. This was something I had noticed in the first few weeks of being in the most challenging class of my life, so far. It was already more than I thought I would have in common with most of the students, considering I was the only junior in a class full of seniors.…
