Firstly, I have always wanted to make a positive difference in people’s lives and have started to do that through my personal business. I recently began an online music lesson platform with the intent of allowing people to learn music from the best teachers around the globe from the comfort of their home. Knowing I have an outlet to make a positive difference in people’s lives provides me with a sense of achievement. I also stated that I want to be in the best shape I can be throughout my time in university as I have always valued great health. This ensured that only the best content agreed upon by all team members would make it to our final assignment submission. My team learned to implement a devil’s advocate the hard way. In our initial meetings, everyone in the group would agree on every idea a person proposed since they did not want to the first person in the group to disagree and possibly cause tension. This reflected in our barely passing mark for our team charter and served as a wake-up call to change how we operate. I will apply this going forward by letting any future groups I am in know this is a concept that is necessary for success and personally take the lead in being devil’s advocate, so that I can break the ice and other members feel comfortable doing the same in upcoming

The main challenge of this group situation is that there was a sudden rise of conflict among members at the beginning to mid phase of the project. This resulted the possible development of groupthink (Janis, 2008). As a leader in this situation, I would firstly feel lousy and disappointed in myself that I didn’t take note of group’s division and how the meeting could be more inclusive of everyone’s opinion (Chadha, 2016). However, at that point, I would also probably feel confused but yet curious as to why it was suddenly voiced out, hence thought that I should facilitate to explicit the thoughts and feelings of each member to better understand as well.…

As a leader I can help prevent Groupthink by encouraging all group members to speak their minds openly, and I would set the perspective that disagreement is necessary for the group to be effective. I have seen some leaders speak on viewpoints opposite of what the team is suggesting and ask questions to encourage critical thinking. I would do the same, for the purpose of seeking to engage others in argumentative discussion and explore intentions. Moreover, leaders should make it known that everyone’s opinion counts and we should encourage ideas, thoughts, and opinions. It is equally important for the leader to contribute thoughts and ideas, but as the textbook suggests, “At the outset, leaders should refrain from stating personal preferences or expectations that may bias group discussion”.…

Be it non-profit settings assisting with community run programs aimed toward bettering the lives of those in local neighborhoods, or clinical offices servicing mental health needs alongside physicians, social work encompasses an array of positions while remaining steadfast in advocating for greater positive social change. Though social work can be seen as a luxury in certain situations, it carries a deeper value that enables practitioners to support underprivileged individuals and communities in times of grief, crisis, or other issues that…

Living in a rural village with very limited access to healthcare, friends and family was everything. PERSONAL STATEMENT As a child growing up through school I had many setbacks in my academics that I had no idea as to what path I was going down. I had entered my freshman year of college with an attitude that if I want to become someone I needed to change the way I looked at my academics. Starting out my college career I had no idea what I really wanted to be, as I was all over the place, first chemistry major and then a computer science major. I went on and tried both of the majors out thinking that’s exactly who I really wanted to be, but in fact I really pulled my academics to the minimal low and did not succeed in both.…

As I reflect on my personal life I value life itself to the point I live each day not knowing what to expect the next day. Positivity is a major factor in all that I do to the point of trying to view all things in a positive way and leaving the negativity out the door. As a mother, partner, educator, and entrepreneur I strive to be mindful, spiritual, and conscious of all my actions. I value these things because this is what makes up my life and what I live for each day. My life is a fourth generation person and I relate because I “want to live, love, learn, and leave it like a seed with balance and joy" (Covey, 73) the quality of my life is more important than planning it out.…
