Towards the end of tenth grade and the Middle Years Programme, we were given an opportunity task to become passionate in our own interests and develop them. The aim of this Personal Project, is to become independent and confident in making choices that demonstrates skills, knowledge, and attitude of learning. This is to become more aware of our identity, community, and change preconceptions. Hence, a global context that appealed to our interest was chosen, and Approaches To Learnings skills were applied to accomplish the goal we set for ourselves. By stepping out to explore my personal beliefs, values, and behavior, my perspective has broadened, as I’ve learned how to make an influence in my surroundings whilst developing a unique characteristic that distinguishes from others. Before the start of this project, I had to be thoughtful when selecting my topic, as this was going to be done over a course of time.

I started off with identifying what I already knew about composing and recording music. When I was eleven years old in South Korea, I attended practical lessons in a Musical Academy for two years. During my attendance, I’ve had some experience of composing with the guidance from a teacher. This experience was immensely helpful in completion to my personal project, as I was able to construct an overall plan in preparation for the months ahead. During this experience, I’ve learnt that the first step of composing music is coming up with a harmony and melody based on a theme or mood. This was neatly recorded onto a computer programme, by connecting an electric piano to the computer system. A unique melody, with lyrics were applied on the music, and the song was completed by recording vocals onto a digital programme such as garageband. Thus, I knew exactly what technology and equipments were needed for my

Theory of Change Management Peter Senge promotes the idea of a Learning Organization as a theory of change management in his book ‘The Fifth Discipline’. Senge (2006) encourages the “rethinking of corporate philosophy” and a commitment to individual learning to establish a learning organization. Individual learning, according to Senge (2006), does not guarantee a learning organization, but without it, learning organization is impossible. Individual learning, therefore, is key to the establishment of a learning organization. Encouragement for individual learning requires “tapping the potential of people” according to Senge (2006).…

Since the first day, time has been flying really fast. Starting a fresh new day, meeting the same teachers and same old friends, I still cannot imagine that I am now a senior! In my senior year, there will definitely be a lot of challenges and obstacles for me to conquer, but I believe that as long as I do everything step by step, I can beat down the difficulties in this senior year. When I was in junior year, I often heard last year’s seniors told me how hard is it to come up with a senior project topic, and they kept on reminding me to start thinking of my topic and finding my mentors. Luckily, I had research method class last year, so I knew how to do my APA style references and I had many presentations experiences last year.…

Freshman year of high school is scary for anyone, the enormous transition from being a top dog at middle school, back to an underclassman; wondering if your high school teachers will be as unforgiving as your 8th grade teacher’s descriptions, or even just that uncertainty that comes along with any major change. As a homeschooler entering school system for the first time, and having completely skipped 8th grade, it was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect, I worried about being behind the other students, or having missed something in my homeschooling curriculum, even interacting with other kids was all unfamiliar. It definitely didn’t help that, at 13, I was the youngest person in the building. Just two days into the school year, I discovered that P-AP world…

Before even entering high school, I made a decision that would ruin the next few years. Looking back, I had no idea it would have impacted me as much as it did, but even now I still wouldn’t have changed that decision. Everything that came after that decision, no matter how difficult, shaped me into who I am today, and I was able to meet some pretty amazing people and do a few things only a handful of people can say they’ve done. In elementary school, I was in the S.C.O.P.E. (Spotsylvania County Program of Enrichment) program, my county’s way of separating out students who they considered gifted and a distraction in the classroom.…

Three years into my high school I hadn't gotten into the state of mind that most over achievers have. I had floated through high school thinking I was trying my very hardest to get good grades and become a consistently studious candidate of my school. However, no matter how hard I tried I failed I gave into all the distractions and used all my obstacles as excuses became frustrated and developed an attitude problem that I had created myself. Being a consistent 2.5 student wasn't satisfying or inspiring. Uniquely enough, I had decided to take challenging courses my junior year.…

Transitioning from middle school to high school is scary enough, not to mention finding out that your best friends won’t be attending that same school adds a little pressure on a pre-teen who, for the most part is really shy. When I first started high school I had a cousin who was a year older than me, she showed me around school and I ended up hanging out with her and her friends for a few months. Then she introduced me to some of her newer friends who were in the same grade as me. They were nice people and they got me through the first year of high school, but I never felt like I belonged to “their group”.…

Before I began my Freshman Development Seminar course with Professor Furet, I believed that this class would not be of good use to me. The reason for this was because of my beliefs in self-teaching myself to learn the basics with additional help from other sources. However, it did not turn out the way I wanted it to be. Therefore, I had to pay to get taught what I could have done on my own, at least that is what I convinced myself then and there. Throughout my class sessions with Ms. Furet, I learned more than I could have ever imagined.…

High school. People say it’s either the best or worst four years of your life. Of course they never give you the details of what makes them the worst or best years. Which means, I, a terrified 8th grader convince myself that they will be the worst four years of my life. Honestly it is easy to guess that.…

My analysis of the syllabus allowed me to get information about what would be expected throughout the JTC 300 level course. The syllabus allowed me to view the number of modules, points, and due dates that I must keep in mind while going through course material. I know I will be able to look back at the thorough explanations provided on many occasions to ensure proper work. Seven learning objectives will be applied to the course, yet I hope to learn even more than these. First, is the ability to understand a variety of diverse concepts, such as race and sexual orientation.…

Three years elapsed, and with those years gone, so were my hardships. The start of my fourth year marked the turning point for me and what made my final year in high school a memorable one. Unlike the years prior where my opinion didn’t matter, my senior year was when I was finally recognized and praised for my abilities. I felt like I was an asset to the team rather than someone who was just taking up space. I was given first priority when the time had come to pick numbers.…

I never really paid any attention to the saying keep your friends close but your enemies closer, that was until middle school. I rode the bus everyday, and I made sure I made friends with the people on the bus realizing that I will be stuck with these guys for a while. That's always been my mentality just stay under the radar and survive, but in this case I wanted to see if maybe this time I could change, even turn over a new leaf. Nobody knew who I was, just a another student passing by in a school of fishes. Around the last quarter of 8th grade year, I went on the bus as usual, and said hello to my friends, but weirdly enough nobody said anything back, I felt as though I was in the twilight zone or something.…

When entering junior high, we were constantly reminded by teachers, parents, and school administrators how different it was from elementary school. It was supposed to be the start of a transition from childhood to young adulthood, and though I discounted many of these sentiments at the time, looking back it certainly was. In an instant, it seemed, everyone started swearing and the hallways began to smell of a putrid mixture of not enough or too much cologne. For the first time we had to change before gym, no one really sure whether it was more socially acceptable to change in a bathroom stall or feign confidence by doing it out in the open. Talk swirled of who got their periods, who was wearing what bra size, and which boys needed to stop cultivating…
