Personal/Professional Goals
Over the last few years, my levels of maturity, motivation, and perseverance have evolved. While working in the emergency department, I have developed a strong desire to make a difference in the quality of one’s life. The knowledge I have obtained as a Registered Nurse has given me the basic understanding of the health care profession in both the adult and pediatric setting. Furthermore, it has motivated me to achieve my professional goal, which is to advance my nursing education and become an active health care professional in the community. I believe that with my experience as a Registered Nurse, and my previous Bachelors Degree in Sociology, I can offer a more culturally competent, patient centered care perspective

I was ecstatic to learn of my acceptance, however, one week into moving to Miami and starting the program, my excitement was replaced with heartache. I learned my father’s melanoma had spread to his liver and he was forced to retire early due to medical circumstances. This unfortunately meant the loss of his steady income; my parents no longer had the financial ability to help with my expenses while I was in school. I was forced to acquire a job, even though working while enrolled in this accelerated program was not recommended. I was determined to achieve my goal of becoming a registered nurse, and I was not going to let my current family and financial circumstances prevent me from obtaining this goal. During this fast past paced, 12 month program, I attended class each morning for eight hours and worked most evenings. I dedicated every opportunity I had to studying and taking practice exams. However, no matter how hard I worked, I was not able to keep up with the demand of the program. I found myself struggling to find the time to master the course material, which resulted in grades that were not up to my usual expectations. Although I successfully completed the program, and passed my NCLEX on the first attempt, my low GPA was the result of the unforeseen circumstances I
