These components are safety, evidence-based practice, teamwork and collaboration, quality improvement, patient-centered care, and informatics (Masters, 2017, p. 207). It is important to me that I provide a safe environment to my patient and their family. As a nurse, I am expected to educate patients and their families with knowledge to contributes to promoting health. The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) defines safety as the minimization of risk of harm to patients and providers through effectiveness and individual performance (Masters, 2017, p. 208). It is my mission to identify certain health risk factors to alleviate opportunity of harm. At times, being a new nurse can be very difficult and challenging. However, by utilizing teamwork and collaboration, it enhances the ability to coordinate care effectively and timely.Studies have shown that teamwork and collaboration impact nursing practice by decreasing the number of medical errors, improving patient outcomes and by providing opportunities to solve issues and problems (Lancaster, Kolakowsky-Hayner, Kovacich, and Greer-Williams, 2015). Lack of cooperation amongst health care providers can hamper the quality of care. The ultimate purpose of teamwork and collaboration is to achieve high-quality patient care (Masters, 2017, p. 335). Moreover, this allows me the opportunity to build strong, trusting bonds and a healthy work environment with other healthcare professionals. For an example, before providing trache care to one of my patients, I decided that it would be a good idea to consult with a respiratory therapist on necessary precautions and how to determine trache cannula sizes appropriately. He assisted me with ordering the proper supplies over the phone. Moreover, because I was so friendly and appreciated his expertise, he decide to come and assist me with the tracheostomy care.
