Personal Philosophy Of Leadership Development

Philosophy of Leadership Development I have seen different types of leadership development, but in my opinion, leadership that incorporates discipleship is the best way to develop leaders. The Bible demonstrates this kind of leadership. Moses, Nathan, and Jesus use this kind of leadership philosophy. These men took time to allow God to pour into their personal lives and then allowed God to use them to pour into the lives of those He had placed in their lives. I believe that no one person should be responsible for someone else, but that we have to grow up and learn to take care of ourselves. Prior to this course, I perceived leaders as people who told a group of people what to do in order to accomplish a task. When I was put in a leadership position I was always effective, but I never really took the thoughts or feelings of others into consideration.…

Leadership Effective and authentic leadership is a key component to the success of any organization. Kinicki, A., & Fugate, M., (2016) defined leadership as “a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal” (Kinicki, A., & Fugate, M., 2016, p.440). The organization I currently work for just became restructured and changed/shifted several leadership positions. The changes were not because people were doing a bad job, but because the vision, mission, and purpose needed to be redefined. Thus, leaders were shifted to fit the new structure according to the needs of the organization.…

Leaders do not just materialize out of nowhere and automatically start making great things happen in the world. Leaders must be prepared to develop good character and be able to control their greedy urges that make them lose sight of what is good or bad. The authors of the article Developing Leadership Character stated “failures of leadership points to issues around character as a central theme. Nowhere was this more obvious than in the financial crisis of 2008 – 2009, in which boldness or instant gratification triumphed over temperance. People who knew that bad risks were being taken did not have the courage and/or confidence to speak up, and people without integrity sold mortgages to those who could not pay them”.…

When being in a leadership role, you have to take into consideration a persons’ character, behavior along with how to reach that person so that you can develop a better relationship with them and push them to be the best version of themselves. The leadership style that I feel would be most effective would be servant leadership. Reason being is because you are a servant first and then a leader and regardless of a persons profession, we are all servants and want to lead people in the right direction and encourage them to reach their full potential. From the examples given, a youth leader is a servant for the Lord, in addition to being a servant for people in the church and by serving in the church and leading by example, he/she is leading a group of young people to the Lord. Now when we go a little further away from professions in the church and start looking at professions like a military drill sergeant, I am still certain that being a servant leader is effective.…

Reflections Regarding Overall Leadership Development The areas of leadership development I mainly want to focus on is fostering professional relationships and facilitating change. At my placement, we are in the process of implementing IUD insertion services and I have attended the team meetings and contributed insightful ideas to the discussions and demonstrated myself as an informal leader. Although I had no authoritative power, I was able to influence colleagues’ decisions as an informal leader (Miner, 2013). By the end of February, my preceptor appointed me as one of the team leaders on the IUD project.…
