I can remember like it was yesterday, I was 13 years old and had borrowed one of my closes friends favorite bracelet. This bracelet wasn’t just an ordinary bracelet; it was a custom made bracelet from Pandora. The charms on the bracelet dangled so nicely and resembled everything that matched her personality. She had ballet shoes, microphones, stars and lipstick charms on it, the true definition of every 13 year olds dream on one bracelet. My friend’s family had a lot of money so I thought asking her would be no big deal, which it wasn’t. She had let me borrow it for my dance performance. We as a whole, focus on trying to “Keep up with the Joneses “, instead of appreciating our own lifestyles and the things that we are blessed to already have. The lady in this short story, didn’t appreciate the life that she lived, lied to a friend about a necklace she lost and ended up taking her and her husband 's life for granted while trying to pay for an expensive necklace that she thought she had borrowed from her wealthy friend but ended up finding out the necklace was costume jewelry. Everyone has been put in a circumstance where we felt like the lady in this short story. Constantly being pressured in the media and in our society to fit a certain extravagant ideal lifestyle is the ongoing issue we face today. The lady praised the lifestyle of her wealthy friend and desired to live just like her, similar how some of us want to live like some celebrities. We view that life is always greener on the other side and fail to realize that we both got a lawn. Some of us never get to enjoy our lives, because we are too busy trying to reach this ideal way of living and have this perception that the more money you will have, the better off you will be. The lady in the story, quickly found out that was not the case. She spent years trying to pay back loans that she used to buy a new diamond necklace. The one night of fame, turned into a nightmare.
