She walked along the winding, worn out trail.The autumn leaves of the willow dance above her head as the cool breath of the evening air tickled her freckled cheeks. She looked up peacefully at the blue sky that waited for night to come, and soaked in the array of colors that overlaid the hilly landscape. About a mile down the stretch, she could see the small lake where her father and her would go fishing. Despite never catching much when she did it was always little pan fish that were enough to satisfy her efforts. She continued down the trail and watch as a grey squirrel scurry up a tree, noticing that he too was preparing for the frigid winter by growing out his warm, furry belly. This would be her last winter in her hometown and …show more content…
What would it be like? She thought, would the people there be kind to her family and her or would the look them as aliens. How did she feel? Was she scared, nervous or excited, that should couldn't decide. Was she mad that they were leaving or most of all was she just sad. She looked up and saw her home, she stopped for a minute and soaked in the details of her house. It was a chestnut brown with a slight tint of red, the trim was a bright white that her dad had redone last summer. She had tried to help but only manage to spill the contents of her paint tray all over herself and the drive way. She walked up the stairs to the patio and opened the front door, immediately she was surrounded by the smell of her favorite meal, tater tot hotdish. The smell filled the room and made her mouth water. She had not realized how hungry she was. Her mom's familiar voice called her from the kitchen “Tessa, sweetie come and eat dinner”. She grabbed her plate and scoop two heaping helpings of hotdish and took a seat at the table and began to dig in. She ate so quickly she almost forgot to drink her favorite pop, root beer. She took a sip, the refreshing fizz and sweetness satisfy her taste buds, it felt like ages since the last time she had a meal this …show more content…
The house was filled with family, food, and football. Their favorite team, the Vikings, were playing against the Detroit Lions and they all gathered around the TV and cheered for their team while stuffing their bellies with turkey and mashed potatoes. Outside the ground was frosted over and the air was nippy, it was the beginning of winter and snow was soon fall. Tessa started out the window she and began to think of the things she was thankful for… family, friends, hockey, softball and the list continued music, school, fishing. She thought of at least thirty things she was thankful for but one was still hung in the back of her mind that she had been pushing away. Her home. It gnawed on her that she would no longer have her home and it was just another reminder that her life was about to be changed completely. Snow tumbled out of the clouds and into the frigid air and the little snowflakes began to cover the Earth beneath their feet. Hockey had started and she was ready to play.
