Slipping through the door silently, I hid in the dark area. Huff, huff was the sound of my breathing as I sat upon the cold wooden floor. I hear the footsteps of that creature’s army, and an occasional whistle or even a yell of “COME OUT, YOU CAN’T HIDE FOR LONG!” (which in my opinion made me giggle, because I wasn’t some girl straight out of a horror film). Slowly crawling under the window of the cabin to the other side of the room, I found a dry pair of clothes and some documents.…

Everyday when I get home I eat the meal that my momma makes for us: there is no arguing whether or not that is what you are having for supper. I come from a family of seven with me being the fourth out of five kids. I was always the shy kid in school, so I did not stand out in my classes as much as the other kids. The only thing that set me apart from my classmates and siblings was my grades. Getting straight A’s practically my entire life had made me the go-to person for homework help. Throughout middle school and high school, my younger sister would always get sick with migraines.…

The memories began flooding my clouded mind as I was walking. 8th grade Billy had already began to distance himself, girls gawking over a new guy every week, and beatings became route. Halfway through I just couldn’t take the constant torture anymore. One day after returning home from another beating I broke down while walking through the door. With mom gone there was no instant alert at the sound of my wails of sorrow echoing through the halls.…

“Wow,” was all I said when I saw my friends I haven’t seen all summer standing at my door. I practically hung out with them every day until my hectic summer schedule came in, so it felt like I haven’t seen them in forever, even when it was only about 2 months. It’s funny how you would think summer is the time of relaxation and hanging out with friends everyday. As for me, I stayed a busy bee, and did many activities to pursue my dream of becoming a triple threat, and getting my name known. One day, I wasn’t doing anything in all of the weeks I’ve been so busy, so it was a bit odd when my mom kept on nagging me to get dressed and ready for the day.…
