“Alright… is there anything else that I need to know?” I ask, a nervous smile on my face. Deep down I know it will be okay, but in the moment it is a lot of responsibility being set upon my small shoulders. There will be no adults. I am the adult. The only adult.
“Nope, I think that’s it. They were really looking forward to you coming this evening... Thank’s again.” And with that Mr. and Mrs. Castaño step out the door all made up and nice looking of to a wonderful date without the kids.
“Hey guys! How are you doing?” I ask cautiously. The carpet squishes under my feet as I embrace my new surroundings. The house smells like laundry detergent and some leftover pasta sauce from last week’s spaghetti. Legos and babydolls litter the floor. Pink. Green. Orange. Ten years after you won the 74th Hunger Games with Peeta, during a brief trip to the Capitol, you meet someone. A very old someone, changed in many ways, his once energetic self now morose. /But Caesar Flickerman is still alive./ "Flickerman," you say, unsure. After all, you were sure that he had died during the rebellion, but you're sort of glad that he didn't; that's one less person, even if a Capitolite, dead.…

“Within the first 100 years of the Europeans landing in the Americas, nine-tenths of the natives died out because of diseases the Europeans brought with them, such as smallpox and the plague. Corn, chocolate, and hemp were some goods that the Europeans got from the Americas. Most Spanish men were obsessed with three things: Gold, God, and Glory. Your parents had never really built an emotional bond with you. They were more like dictators, they forced you to be the three P’s: posh, proper, and polite. When you wanted to play outside with the other kids, they shook their head in distaste, your mother telling you that’s not what ladies do.…

Riley perched herself on the edge of the cabin bed, absentmindedly following routine and pulling on her combat boots, thick and heavy, ready for fighting. Moonlight was seeping through the gaps in the blacked out windows; there was a gentle spring breeze making its way through the log cabin walls. She was small for her age of 14 but she had strength and speed on her side. Riley could hear the other campers singing around the campfire and the subtle smells of burnt sugar from the marshmallows being roasted outside.…
