Talking about change in a collaborative and conversational style strengthen the client’s motivation and commitment to change (Miller, p. 4). Therefore, when presented with case, the approach I chose was more of a non-directive counseling session where the counselor is portrayed as the one in charge and is expected to give advice to client, instead I wanted the client to openly talk about his current situation and guide him to talk himself into the need to change the situation that is causing stress in his life. Some of the techniques I tried applying included: engagement, open-ended questions, empathetic responses, affirmations and summarizing. Some of my areas of strength during the interview are warmth, engaging, active listening, and empathic…

I believe the most valuable experience I gained during my second placement, was observing and working as part of a collaborative interprofessional team. This is the focus of this final placement reflection. Through university studies, the importance of engagement not only with the client but also other health professionals have been highlight in each subject of both my undergraduate degree and in this course to ensure a client centred approach is undertaken to optimise the quality and effectiveness of a client’s treatment plan. I observed and experienced this first hand during both placements, however in a more interactive capacity in my second placement. The 2 key experiences I have reflected on from my placements are general engagement and…

Rustic Pathways is an organization that provides high school students with opportunities to work on international service projects as well as allowing students to see their ability to change and impact more than their everyday world. The school I attend requires all sophomores and juniors to complete a 70-hour internship during the summer before junior and senior year as well as travel abroad once before graduation, so Rustic Pathways seemed perfect for killing two birds with one stone. But what initially started off as a school requirement turned into much more than that. I learned how to communicate despite language barriers, how to appreciate the small things in life like bus rides, and along the way managed to have the most fun I've ever had in my life. I may not have directly impacted Rustic Pathways, but I know for certain that I impacted the group I traveled with simply by being transparent, listening when needed and speaking up at the appropriate time(s).…

This quote is completely true, after reviewing my overall performance I spotted that I do have some improving to do. However, I also have some things that I feel that I did pretty well on. Successes One area that I feel confident in is the introduction for interviews. We have practiced the introductions several times with different interviews, so it is understandable why I feel I have that mastered. One area specifically within the introductions that I feel confident in is the confidentiality agreement. Another area that I feel I have grown in is the knowledge of asking questions. In the beginning of the class when Professor Ball would be the client and every student was the social worker, I had trouble formulating questions to ask.…

During my time at Optimist International, I would say the management was overall pretty effective. The management style that I witnessed the most and saw in other departments of the organization was delegation of tasks. I was lucky enough to sit in on a staff meeting roughly half way through my internship. It was led by the executive director of the company, but it was less of a demand on things that needed to be done, and more of a conversation between each employee and the status of their assigned tasks. The CEO usually had his things he did in his office, but would occasionally come and visit each department and chat about what the weekly tasks were and how everything was going.…

Module 1: Career Development The current job market is highly competitive, and employers hold the advantage over job seekers. Because of this, it is important for prospective applicants to have a well tailored resume that is specific to the position they are applying for, and ensure that they have worked to develop their professional interviewing skills. If either of these areas are lacking, employers are likely to pass over the candidate for someone whose resume is more refined, or whose personality is better demonstrated in an interview. The Job Search…

    • Identify two areas in which you were effective (and why) and one or two areas you should improve (and why). In simulation this week, I was effective in remembering the majority of the steps for the head to toe (I always seem to forget orientation and capillary refill). I quickly realized at the end if I had left out any steps and by the end of simulation I felt much more confident in completing a head to toe exam. I also did a good job of noticing what my peers missed during their head to toe exam.…

Prior to conducting an interviews or beginning my strengths assessments, I had a very good idea in mind of what my strengths were. I’m still learning to identify my weaknesses are, but from the start, I knew what I was good at. I’m a good people-person, and staying organized and on task is one of my most valuable strengths. I received more assurance when listening to my closest family members tell stories of me at my best, and learning my top five strengths. When interviewing with my dad, he told me a story of me at my best when I was younger, only in kindergarten.…
