I sat at the kitchen table going through piece by piece, trying to figure out the inter working of my new magic kit. In my fourth grade classroom if you did something extra special you get to pick a prize out of a big bucket filled with random junk. A fourth grader's dream. That day was great for little fourth grade me because not only had I earned a prize, but the night previously I had been visited by the tooth fairy. When my mother entered the kitchen, she could immediately sense my jubilation. After spewing the details of my day, I insisted on performing a magic trick for her. I searched through the kit until I decided on the “disappearing ball trick”.

I yanked the top draw open, and began searching through the hankies. I dug through the piles of white cotton squares with the little embroidered K’s, looking for the little plaid one. As I overturned one of the handkerchiefs towards the bottom of the drawer, I noticed an odd little white object. I picked it up with my little fingers and brought it closer to my face. As I examined it further, I realized it was a tooth. I spun it between my thumb and forefinger when I realized I was quite familiar with this specific tooth, because it was the one I had lost the night before.
