It was a bright sunny Saturday morning, waking up hearing the birds chirping outside. The sun was shining through the windows throughout the house. I can remember sitting in the living room in a tan recliner facing the Tv. But, the day was not over yet and as ten o’clock neared, fatigue consumed me and compelled me to sleep. Upon each step of the staircase, exhaustion reminded me to look down as I stared into a pair of black almond eyes and finished my journey to my room. I slumped onto my bed and prepared for a long night of rest. As sleep neared, a high pitch whine snaps me awake and then repeats and repeats and repeats… As the shriek continues, realization engulfs me that I will be the one waking up for this dog. I was 23 before I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. As far back as Elementary school I knew that there was something “off” in the way that I processed information. That my ability to do well academically was somehow hindered by not having certain tools that I needed, tools I wasn’t even aware existed.
