Mari and I were playing the game we called, “red car, blue car”, on the bus on our way to school like we always do. While walking off the bus Mari tripped down the stairs, and landed, SPLAT, on the ground. Everyone laughed, and Mari, red as a cherry, ran off in the distance. Mr. Schmidt came around the room with his cart giving everyone a kit… and a frog, a dead frog. Once he arrived to our table, I felt like I was going to vomit! Isaac opened the kit. We grabbed our gloves and put them on. Aaron put the pins on the arms, legs, and head of the frog. After that, he dove straight in and cut the frog open. Aaron and Isaac poked around looking at the frog's intestines. When it got to my turn I was shaking. I so badly wanted to just run out of the classroom and not have to deal with any of this! I reached down and caught the frog in my hand. I put the frog in the empty mason jar on the shelf behind me. Mr. Schmidt examined the frog as it hopped around. No cuts, no nothing. This was so bizarre! The class sat in confusion, until we got dismissed. For the rest of the day I thought about what had happened. It just didn't make sense! I walked up to her and reached for her hand, she squeezes. And then, the most bizarre thing happened! Her deep wound on her forehead disappeared in a blink! "Mari! Did you see that?!" I shouted. Mari looked at me in confusion. "See what?!" "Your, your, you- feel your forehead!" Mari reaches up and, "Oh my gosh!!! Everything's gone!! No cuts, bruises, nothing! A nice way to start out my childhood. It was about ten years ago, when I was three, when I came to realize that I had to be more careful. The clock ticked by, it was 6:01 in the morning, and I kept looking at her, a look of pain was reflected on her face, sweaty and strained with the joy of anticipation. Her hands tugging hard at the bed sheet and the veins popping out on her neck were visible pulsating as she tried not to make noise, but I knew she was struggling to keep calm. How I wish I was in her spot, to feel what she was feeling; unfortunately, reality kept nudging me with my imagination being broken by the movement going around, people in and out of the room, preparing her, not me, for what was to come. My mother next to me praying, her coffee breath filling my nostrils. I was nervous, impatient, overly excited but at the same time a wave of melancholy was slowly invading me.…
