It was the day of my 8th birthday, February 19th, 1992. I woke up at an unpleasant time of 6:39 AM. A man's figure was dashing out the door; I presume it was my dad rushing out the door to go to work. Last night he said to me, “Euripides, do you know why I go out into the cruel world and protect complete strangers?” I shook my head... “I do it all to make sure that you and your mother can have a great future.” My father practically lived at his job. Even on birthdays, my dad could never make time for me, and when he was home he usually slept... Little did I know my father was to meet his maker on this tragic night of February 19th, 1992.
At the time of 7:02 AM the landline rang, I tried to grab the phone, but my mother beat me to it. The person on the other side of the phone began to

On my way there I noticed something that seemed peculiar. Scotty had made his way to the sandwich shop down the street. It appears he is with someone. Feeling timid, I pull over and approach Scotty.
“Look, I’m sorry for accusing you the way I did earlier. I’ve just been going through some personal stuff lately, and I hope we can forget about what happened. How about I pay for your meal? My name’s Euripides. Euripides Napier.”
“Aren’t you the son of Aitor Napier?” Scotty replies. The man sitting across from him looked up from his sandwich.
I respond with, “Why yes, I am. Did you know him?”
The man butts in, “I used to know your father very well. We used to work together as detectives. Nowadays, I’m working with my friend, Scotty, here.”
“ I don’t believe I caught your name,” I say.
“The name’s Ubel Raymond. I'm terribly sorry about the death of your father." He looks off into the distance, eyes widening slowly as if he were coming to a sudden realization.
“Ah, Ubel, just the man I was looking for. I could use your help with something if you're willing to help." I humbly reply.
“Depends. What are you looking for help

FBI Agent Winston Powell looked innocuous enough like a tourist in a white Ralph-Lauren shirt, a pair of white Nike Air Max sneakers, and Dockers khaki slacks. He was a blond-haired blue-eye gringo with a quick, disarming smile. And his flawless bleach-whitened teeth hinted at a touch of vanity. The disguise was effective because the locals thought Agent Powell was just one of many other well-to-do Americans in Mazatlán on vacation. And they were partly right—the vacation part: He was a tourist in Mexico having fun with his family.…

I'm used to death: I wasn't panicking when it happened because I knew what was coming and that death was inevitable. I had met Luke's friend, James McGrath, a few months before the apocalypse. I'd left Fraser home with my husband and taken Luke to meet some of the parents at his daycare. I'd stepped through the door with my son clutching my pant leg and a pink-cheeked freckled little boy came bounding to me feet. His mother was following close behind, smiling and introducing herself as 'Caitlin'.…

It was the middle of 4th grade, at that time of the year, we had to write essays. I remembered that the prompt for the essay was about an animal that you wanted to write about. It was a prompt that I loved to write about since almost every year I wrote about the same animal. Almost every year in elementary school, I had to write a report on an animal, and every year I wrote about jellyfish because it was my favorite animal. I had already started the essay because I was already experienced and a professional at writing about jellyfish.…
