And this is the room where it happened. It all started 7 years ago on a gloomy summer day in Grand Rapids, MI. At the time, I was 11 years old and quite innocent, seeing I was so young. On June 23, I was walking home from the park while my mom was at work. On my way back on the old, cracked sidewalk, I heard voices from the alley nearby. Once when I was at home with my younger sisters and older brother I had been in my room listening to music. When out of nowhere, I heard taps on my window and at first I didn’t realize someone or something was at my window, because I thought the sounds were just kids with fireworks. It was July so it wouldn’t have been out of the ordinary. I then realized there was a person at my window tapping on it, and they were doing it slowly and creepily. I ran out of my room and ran to my brother’s and told him.…

I was fast asleep at home in a small town called Belarus, I kept waking up throughout the night from loud sounds of wind clashing with the leaves on the tree’s, in my mind I kept thinking something bad was going to happen, most of the Nazi’s were taking over Germany and invading most Jews house. I thought to myself if I pretend to not be a Jew I might not be put in a concentration camp, but then a thought to myself “what’s the point of doing that” they’re going to see me with my parents that look very much Jewish. And as Hitler said “being a Jew isn’t your religion it’s your blood”, I forced myself to stop thinking about everything, closed my eyes and forced myself to sleep. 2/7/1944 I woke up in a carriage with my parents nowhere to be seen, I immediately started to panic and cry, in my mind I told myself “I knew we we’re going to get caught, it was only a matter of time”. “Wow,” was all I said when I saw my friends I haven’t seen all summer standing at my door. I practically hung out with them every day until my hectic summer schedule came in, so it felt like I haven’t seen them in forever, even when it was only about 2 months. It’s funny how you would think summer is the time of relaxation and hanging out with friends everyday. As for me, I stayed a busy bee, and did many activities to pursue my dream of becoming a triple threat, and getting my name known. One day, I wasn’t doing anything in all of the weeks I’ve been so busy, so it was a bit odd when my mom kept on nagging me to get dressed and ready for the day.…

They turned around and saw me and sprinted down a back alley. I ran over to the bloody and bruised man.…
