An immense blue wall was blocking my view of the breathtaking sunset. The air was moist. I was in Maui, Hawaii. Everyone was yelling, screaming, hollering and having fun. Kids were flying their kites. People were eating pizza and icecream. Then suddenly, everything became quiet. Everyone was looking at me. The wave broke the silence as it jumped on me like a tackle in football. I felt like I had the ball because I kept getting tackled by the water!

I was wobbling in the water and trying to find a way to get out. I was a squirmy little guy without a life saver. The worst possible thing that could happen to an eight year old.“Oh no, I thought. Will I ever get out? What if I don’t get out? What if I drown and never find my family again? What about the five dollars I forgot to give my brother the other day because he bought pizza for me? What if a shark eats me? A million possibilities of death were going through my mind. swoosh! Before I could continue, A big gust of water went through my nose and my mouth. I turned upside down. The current was too strong for me to overcome. I heard the lifeguard coming to save me, but by the time that happened I would live no longer.

I screeched. I wasn’t able to breathe. I thought about my family. I thought about my friends. All that I would miss after this tragedy. A drop of water joined the rest of the trillions of drops of water in the ocean. My life flashed before my eyes. Goodbye cruel

It was a dark and stormy night in July. My friends and I were fishing in a boat on Sylvan Lake, and the water was beginning to get very choppy and bubbly. “Miami isn’t too far; it is ninety-five miles away at the most…” Maya’s cherubic features made it hard to fabricate an excuse for wanting to stay in Cuba. I knew that staying here, staying in poverty, predisposed me to a life of misery and malnourishment. The journey would be perilous, which made me wonder if it was worth it. I longed to voice my dissent and convince her to condone the actions of the corrupt government, however I knew the time to liberate had come. My patience for living life as nothing more than a pitiful pauper, salvaging and pilfering for my next meal was beyond exhausted.…

so he goes back. He goes to the water and lays in the sand with a sense of relief. The protagonist says, “Almost in reconciliation, it seemed the same waves that had washed up on the beach when I was a boy were now fondly washing my feet, soaking black my shoes and pant cuffs”. But just as a large gust of wind, scary at first, but relieving in the end: Forty long years collapsed like a dilapidated house, mixing old time and new time together in a single swirling mass. All sounds faded, and the light around me shuddered.…

We are all born on boats, coming from a source of which we know naught, and heading into an oblivion of which we can only imagine. Most of us are delivered onto vessels to live with our families, only leaving once adolescence entreats an independence that necessitates our sailing solo. Others live forever on the same craft, never venturing past that which man has made to separate us from the swirling, unknown waters below. Still others must learn to be autonomous almost at once, for they are set free on the sea only as babes, forced out of circumstance to ride the waves in nothing like a basket like the infant Moses. My juvenescence fell somewhere in the middle of that gamut; I lived on the ship of my family for the first several years…

Water Far in the ocean, I was on a small boat with four people to go diving. Jamie, Bob, Matt, and Mike were there to support me, but they didn’t want to go in the water. Before I dived in the water, Matt had given me a pocket knife for defence, but I figured it wouldn’t work, considering there were gigantic creatures in the ocean. I dived into the water, but my heart was pounding, and then, I saw a large grey streak dashing by. Then it came back, and the closer it got to me, the faster I swam away, until it caught up.…
