I had a pretty typical life before it happened. I lived with my father and my 7-year old brother in the suburbs. The only interesting thing that has happened to me was my mother’s disappearance. It happened a few years ago, we all just woke up one day and she was gone without a trace. Nobody, not even the police, could figure out what had happened. It was a strange coincidence, because the same thing had happened to my grandmother as well. I had an idea of where she went, though. It all started when my class was going on a field trip. That eventually lead to my getting lost in a creepy abandoned mill in an attempt to retrieve my grandmother’s silver heirloom locket. I then had a meeting with a rather terrifying and unpleasant giant …show more content…
I learned that his name was Damien. I don’t remember much else about him. Eventually we finally came to a dead end. “We have to go down into the trap door from here, are you sure you still want to do this?” he asked. I figured that there was no going back now, it was do or die. “Yes, I’m sure.” I said, my confidence unwavering.
“Let’s go then.” He said as he was opening a hatch in the floor, pulling up a corn that I hadn’t noticed before. The rotten wood peeled away from the floor, revealing a dark hole. I couldn’t have guessed how deep it was, but there was a single, narrow, stone staircase that looked as if it’s going to crumble under my feet leading down. Damien went first, and after beckoning to me, I reluctantly started down the surprisingly sturdy staircase as well. After a few minutes of walking, the darkness didn’t really bother me. I knew that there were walls on either side of me made out of some kind of concrete. It was a little scary, and I was really hoping that I’d get out of there

I then reluctantly took a step out. Immediately, it felt as if the temperature had dropped drastically. As Damien stepped through and closed the door, I finally looked around. This place was very…..different. I remember it in my mind as if it were just yesterday. It was as if we had stepped onto the sidewalk of a normal bustling city, except everything was different. The sky was black with gray clouds, all of the towering buildings were either black or a shade of gray. Everything, including the people’s skin and hair, were gray or black. Somehow, even with no sun, there was light. I took a closer look at the people moving around me. They were all gray even their skin. They were all wearing the same clothes as well. After examining their clothing, I looked up at their faces. It was very peculiar, for they all had the same expression. I couldn’t quite place what this expression was then, but now I know; a mixture of doubt, loss, regret, and hurt. The kind of expression that kills you on the inside when you see

Hero’s Journey Narrative He handed me a blue necklace before he perished into the burning fires of the precious mansion he held so dear to him. He just laid there, watching his valuables burn to ashes and follow the path of the outside wind. His last words were, “Look in the cupboard, everything is there for you.” He said it with such seriousness, he was accepting his death and that is what pained me the most. I quickly ran after him, but he pushed me away.…

Even then he cowered, flinched. Foot traffic was low in a forgotten corner of midsummer Los Angeles, the outskirts of downtown or not. No more than a hundred people would have seen him in the whole day, had they been looking. The sun ticked its way downwards, stretching the shadows out longer and longer over crumbling buildings until the city’s streetlights began to shine bright and high rises glittered in mutual reflection. A full moon rose a heavy harvest color in the distance.…

By the time Briar Rose made her way back to Sara's fortress, the sky was utterly dark but for the light of the stars and the waning moon. The Sea Kingdom was beautiful, there was no doubt about that, and it was a comfort to see a clear night sky again now that most of the magical residue had begun to fade away. Idly, Rose dragged her fingertips along the smooth stone of the outer walls as she walked, not quite ready to go inside just yet. Even though here she was free to come and go as she pleased, there was still something very confining about a castle when compared with the sixteen years she had spent in the woods, and the many months she had spent camping with the wicked fairies during the height of the war.…

When I was a child, I was terrified of the dark. I still am, but back when I was around six years old I couldn’t go a full night without crying out for one of my parents to search beneath my bed or in my closet for whatever monster I thought was waiting to eat me. Even with a light on, I would still see dark shapes moving around the corners of the room, or strange faces looking in on me from my bedroom window. My parents would do their best to calm me down, telling me that it was just a bad dream or a trick of the light, but in my young mind I was positive that the second I fell asleep, the monsters would get to me. Most of the time I would just hide under the blankets until I became tired enough to stop worrying, but every now and then I would…
