When I woke up the following day and realized the day before wasn’t some sick, twisted unbelievable nightmare ending with a kiss, I felt much worse. Actually I felt seriously ill. I had a girlfriend that caused my mother to fuss over what I was wearing as if this was my first day of kindergarten. This includes her attempt of the tried and true spit on the finger cleaning and hair straitening method. I didn’t have the heart to tell her what I had on wasn’t my choice, but the school's new uniform. The way she spoke in length that wearing a blue blazer, khaki pants, and a matching plaid tie wasn’t my style and that my father must had filled up my head with ideas that I could sport the preppy look. Although I did come home with a girl …show more content…
I really hate to say this (because I don’t believe I had actually had the thought in the first place), but Lucy was the calm one in my family. I knew she wished she could have had a chance to ask Anna an unending list of deeply probing questions directly, but she had actually behaved herself. I knew my little sinister sister all too well. Lucy was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to cause her tried and true methods of terrorizing my life to the point of having me wish with all my heart that we lived on the top floor of a skyscraper to see if it would be faster to give me a reason to jump or just push me. In all actuality, Lucy was very simple in her approach in causing as much mental damage as she possible could in the shortest amount of time and with the least amount of …show more content…
Lucy was very good at dropping bombs. Her unofficial nickname was Little Miss Mushroom Cloud. As expected, she did continue from where she had left off the day before as soon as I sat down for breakfast. I guess my ears bleeding last night wasn’t enough entertainment for her or she was just looking forward to an encore of me wincing in pain. Either way you look at it, there was one thing I had never given much thought to, but she had to drop that little bomb first. Once again my hope that she would move on hadn’t happened. I could tell she wasn’t going to let go of her question about knowing between Norman and me, who was the first one to receive their first kiss (from a girl not our mothers that is). I should not have been surprised that my parents thought that was an appropriate question, and quickly insure me that I can clean up the orange juice I had sprayed when I choked after they hear my answer. I guess saying that they had the perfect opportunity to ask the two people who actually knew that answer before they left wasn’t what they wanted to hear. I was never so grateful that Anna and Elena had barely said hello to Norman’s and my parents and my little sister Lucy, excused themselves with promises to spend more time to speak to everyone soon. It wasn’t until several minutes later, after Anna and Elena gave out wet ones to each of us before our family started breathing

I thought it was a shame for my family. I was afraid because I thought it was my fault. I was home alone because my parents were working a 12-hour shift, I was five years old, and I didn’t know what revealing clothe was. I wasn’t asking for it, I just wanted to play with my dolls, and drink my chocolate milk. Do you remember when you were a little kid and you had to climb on your counter-top to reach a cabinet? I remember it as if it was yesterday, maybe because it really was. Dust occupied the vacant room, boxes were on top of boxes, people moved in and out of the house. I sat in the corner of my room trying to ignore the people taking away my belongings, trying to hide from the monster. “Posso preindere questa scatola?” a mover with an ovalish face and flowy hair came up to me and asked. I looked up from the ground and my emerald eyes widened with confusion.…

It was a snowy Thursday evening and fat flakes fells from the sky as we drove down the road. My mom and I were heading to the barn I took horseback lessons at, Hunter’s Creek. It was a cold windy day in late November. It was a typical winter day in Rhode Island. The sky was blue, but the air had a chill to it and you could almost smell the snow arriving. My friends and I stood in a circle lightly bouncing trying to use each others body heat to keep ourselves warm. It has always been our tradition to get to an arena at least an hour before a concert starts and wait for the doors to open.…

“why’d you do that?” I turned around and saw my little sister, rubbing crusties out of the corners of her tired eyes. Dirt from the branches and leaves I rammed through glued to the sweat on my forehead as it dripped down my face; it stung my eyes and blinded me as I ran through the maze of trees. Despite the pain, dirt wasn’t going to stop or slow my sprint from the scene I had just encountered. “Right at the river, left, straight,” I murmured to myself, looking down at the path of transparent blue rocks that my sister and I had laid down earlier this summer. We figured that if we ever couldn’t find our way back through the woods to our house, then we could follow the colorful stones that we stole from our other sister’s fish tank. But, the sun was seemingly tired and getting ready for night time, so the blue began to blend in with the dirty pebbles around them.…

The sun was shining, there was a slight breeze, I could hear the leaves rustling on the ground. It was the perfect day out today and anyone could tell. I close my eyes and just listen to the beautiful sounds of nature, wondering what all the birds were saying. I can hear soft footsteps but I don’t open my eyes, only shift my mouth into a small smirk.…

Heartache and misfortune are inevitable as we go through life, but it is how we respond to these misfortunes that defines who we are. No one wants bad things to happen to them, in fact we do everything we can to avoid going through difficult times, but some things can not be avoided. Something we can avoid is obsessing over the inevitably unfortunate things that happen in our lives. There was a time in my own life when I was on the edge of being consumed in my own sadness.…
