There is nothing greater than helping your grandparents on their large ranch in the middle of Kansas. That was what I was thinking as I hopped on my grandmother Patrice’s horse named Watermelon. My mother told me, my grandparents owned a gigantic ranch, so I instantly wanted to come out and help them and learn how to care for cattle. They had a bunch of cattle on their farm that they have to care for everyday. My mother decided to have me assist them with caring for their animals. Once I climbed back up on my horse, I rode up to my grandpa Jim, who was waiting for me on his horse. My grandfather squinted his peaceful brown eyes at me then asked in his old and deep, raspy voice, “We are traveling along this trail to check on how the cattle are doing. After that, we will ride to the chicken pen and feed the chickens if we have time. Ready?” …show more content…
The reason why I was full of alacrity was because I rarely had the chance to see them or participate in any activities with my old grandparents. After I replied to grandpa Jim, I spurred my horse thinking that it’ll peacefully walk over to the path. Instead, it rose onto his hind legs which caused me to slip off of my leather saddle. When I fell to the ground, I landed extremely hard on some rocks. As I was falling I almost landed on a dark blue salamander that was on a unique rock. Thankfully, it scurried away just before I touched the ground. It wasn’t the greatest pain I endured in my life, yet it left me with tears in my blue eyes. Some grass and chunks of dried dirt flew in my mouth and it tasted awful. I immediately spit it out of my

It is minutes later now and we are trudging down an overgrown trail, tactfully descending the deep slopes of New Mexican land. Everything smells strongly of mud and salt and soaked manure from the horse barn down the road. I almost trip over a weed, but my father steadies me and says, “Almost there, baby.” The arroyo is different than I have ever seen it.…

I now know this was called the Lebensborn project, or Fountain of Life." It was one of most secret and terrifying Nazi projects to be created by the government. About once every three to four years my Dad's family takes a road trip out to the black hills. Usually It's during the winter so we can go skiing but this year is different. Instead of going when it's cold and all we do is ski and play monopoly, this year my dad had the great idea to go during the summer and climb the tallest peak this side of the Rockies, Harney Peak. At first, I didn't Know what to expect, so I said ok to the Idea and went along with my business. On the drive west to the black hills though, I had a second thought.…

The Broken Promise An adaptation of The Boy and The Wolves I was sitting in the heavy sheets of rain, building mud castles, and wearing only my leggings and breechcloth. I stood up and walked into my families wigwam, and saw my mother huddled over my sick father. “Kuckunniwi gather Viho, and Asha” my mother politely asked. Viho and Asha were named after important parts of our lives.…

Eyes on the Prize The mountains towering over the valleys between them, with the tall evergreen pines trees that covered the forest floor was a beautiful site. The soft chirp of birds was a relaxing distance sound of nature. The air was intoxicating with oxygen, so fresh, in comparison to the air from Belen. Late afternoon was coming around, being out all that morning with the anticipation of finding a bull, all of us anxious for action.…

It seemed like every weekend my father would take my sister and I to my grandparent’s farm. There were all kinds of things to do, like play with the puppies or the cats or just run around. My sister and I would help my grandparents pick apples, raspberries, and strawberries. We would also help my grandma make pies and cookies. We were always busy doing something.…

Dirt from the branches and leaves I rammed through glued to the sweat on my forehead as it dripped down my face; it stung my eyes and blinded me as I ran through the maze of trees. Despite the pain, dirt wasn’t going to stop or slow my sprint from the scene I had just encountered. “Right at the river, left, straight,” I murmured to myself, looking down at the path of transparent blue rocks that my sister and I had laid down earlier this summer. We figured that if we ever couldn’t find our way back through the woods to our house, then we could follow the colorful stones that we stole from our other sister’s fish tank. But, the sun was seemingly tired and getting ready for night time, so the blue began to blend in with the dirty pebbles around them.…

Exposition: Bonding time, or the last time you ever spent time with someone is a thing that is usually thought about being things such as a sports games, family game night, vacations or something of the sort. There is something about the rawness of equine emotions that I connect so easily with. Their acceptance of everyone around them and their immediate compassion are two traits that I have been able to deepen in myself by reflecting the horses. Their unfettered love has allowed me to experience the world in a more intuitive way. I now appreciate the value in little victories and little joys: the feeling of a warm hug, a favorite scented candle, a pattering spring rain, a clear night sky. There is so much more to living than just existing: it’s about experiencing.…

The Good Times As D.H. Lawrence listens to a woman singing and playing piano, he experiences a moment of involuntary memory that is connected to his mother. In his poem “Piano”, Lawrence begins by stating, “softly in the dusk, a woman is singing to me” (1). By using descriptive text throughout the poem, Lawrence illustrates the memory of, “hymns in the cozy parlor, the tinkling piano our guide” (8). Lawrence explains that the singer is “taking me back down the vista of years” which makes it clear that the music the singer played has a strong connection with that his mother used to play (2). He uses imagery to illustrate the climax of the poem, as well as, his real vision of the memory which is likely “the old Sunday evenings, with winter…

Also, I will never forget the massiveness of the three ridges we had to climb up.…
