Personal Narrative: Z Is For Zach

Decent Essays
Z is for Zach Zach has been a friend of mine for a long time. We both have a love for fireworks or anything thing that blows up. He lives in Farmington, and has a creek that goes under his driveway. We also went to Wisconsin together several times. Both of our families used to go there all the time. We would rent a pontoon and go fishing. I want to go back to Wisconsin with them sometime. I haven’t went there in a long time. The last time I went,

My house was right in front of a golf course, so Alex's family (who I mentioned earlier) would come over every night and we would walk around the golf course, with my dog, Alice, trodding along with us, without a leash. We would gather any "treasure" we found and bring it back with us and try to make something out of it. The treasure usually consisted of twigs, golf balls, golf tees and/or other miscellaneous items that we came across. We would also always just roll down the hills and run through the sprinklers that were usually on, coming home soaked. When we would get home we'd eat a snack and then we would either team up with someone, or individually try to make something cool and then pick a winner.…

Yesterday, I felt like dying. I wasn’t going to actually give in, but I feel stuck between two worlds and the pressure of pleasing both is weighing down on me, personal and societal obligations not yet met. I suppose that’s why I connect to Asher Lev, a jewish boy conflicted on pursuing what he loves at the expense of his religious beliefs, or satisfying his family at the liability of his own happiness. I think everyone goes through a period of depression where nothing seems to make sense and the thought of the future is a gloomy prospect, especially innovative creators. I’m not saying I lack the energy or will to pursue an ambitious life, I am passionate about learning and creating just as Asher Lev was, but right now I need to find myself, explore what it means to have an identity, and I think that’s what Asher’s story is about.…
