Improved Essays
For the past five years I have worked with adults with learning disability supporting them to leave independently in their homes and to access their local communities in some cases using my car to do so. For example I work with this elderly gentleman who leaves on his own but needs support with personal care and general house chores. As part of a team, I have supported this gentleman to shower and dress in the morning and evenings making sure that he takes his medication. Also I support him at teatime to prepare meals, with much emphasis on a healthy diet, which helps his health conditions. Moreover, I work closely with the dietician and the learning disability nurse; this enables me to give a coordinated support which is guided by his care

Stop and think. How would you feel if there was no one to support you when your life is suddenly in turmoil, where your dignity as well as independence has been taken away from you, where you’re struggling completing the tasks that you used to complete without a second thought? As someone who has battled with mental health, fortunately, I have been given the support needed to aid my recovery from my family, friends and dedicated health and social care professionals. I learnt the importance of self-care and routine and expressing myself through the activities I enjoy, including my love for reading, as like me, many individuals find it extremely difficult to talk about our thoughts and feelings and require a different outlet.…
