I stare at the ceiling of my bedroom, blankly staring drowned on my thoughts. My stomach grumbling my body aching my head resting on leaves stuffed on a pillow and my body covered on an odd looking blanket the feeling of it is like a sack.

I have no choice but to cover myself with it every night in order to keep my body temperature, last night it was freezing I toss and turned to sleep but something on my mind was keeping my head awake, instead I end up suffocating myself with a pillow just to sleep.

I remember the times, my father was teaching me to work at the powerplant kind of a show-and-bring-your-kid to work event. while he was pressing buttons I'm amused by looking at the electric currents I wonder how it works the energy channeling

The workers grabbed me while I was running towards my father, I wept and shove then enough for them to stumble on their knees, I screamed and kneeled down on my father I touched his head and I felt a spark or a burn, all my thoughts flooding on my head as they got him on a standard stretcher

'Why me why in all this time why do I even have to witness it ?', The thought came unbidden into my mind as they took my father away to get him to a medic on the power plant.

I tried to chase after them the sound of the commotion inside the factory was taking me into a jarring halt. My vision obstructed by tears pricking my tear ducts, and the stinging from the sweat trickling down to my forehead.

I cannot do anything to erase that memory from me, it became the highlight since he left. Everyone came to express their condolences but all I can hear was the noises.

The noise of the clamoring, scent of burning flesh, and the sight of my dying father that I could not do anything to save him from that

I believe that I would be a good candidate for the Grayling Generating Station Limited Partnership Scholarship. Through the following paragraphs I hope to demonstrate my suitability as a recipient of this scholarship. “It’s not where you start it’s where you finish” is a famous song lyric that applies to my life story. I believe my journey began in a small, rural, impoverished village in southern China, named Dapu. At the age of ten months I was adopted by my mom and traveled 7622 miles to arrive in Grayling, MI.…

"Never shall I forget those things, even were I condemned to live as long as God himself." (Wiesel, 34) Elie Wiesel promised to never forget the things he experienced throughout his time in concentration camps; even throughout the years, he kept that promise. After two years in a concentration camp, Elie Wiesel is finally freed--his first thought as a free man: to eat. Years later, however, he has a new motive--to detail his life in Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps. In his memoir Night, Wiesel shares about the separation of his family, the violence he experienced at the hands of SS-officers, the malnutrition and times he and the other Jews were pushed to their breaking points.…

As a child, I remember my grandma reading me The Little Engine that Could every time I visited her house. Which may seem slightly odd that, that’s what I enjoyed as a kid. It quickly led to me writing in school. During kindergarten, we were all about writing our own books. For example, I ended that year with 22 books.…

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…

The idea of being told that I had to work for the first time made me want to eat glass; but could it possibly have turned out for the better? In England, when you reach 10th grade you participate in a nationally accepted program called 'Work Experience'. ' Work Experience' is when you work just like you would if you were legally an adult except with this program it only lasts a week. After 2 weeks of tireless searching I landed a job at Ariya Capital; an experienced developer and investor in clean energy and infrastructure projects throughout sub-Saharan Africa. It was actually much more advanced than any job I ever thought of getting.…

The stage lights blared down on my trembling body as I tried to force a smile onto anxious face. The year-end concert had approached and the moment for the audience to be introduced to the elegant melody of Gabriel’s Oboe had finally arrived. The hours spent perfecting my tone, the repetition of phrases to perfect my rhythm, all led up to my hope of performing a faultless solo. As the conductor nodded his head and the the phrase the band behind my played escalated, the first notes spoke from the wooden instrument I grasped in my shivering hands. The F, E, G, A, C, resonated around the auditorium and boomed off the sound beams back into my determined mind.…

If I worked for the B&O Railroad as a brakeman in 1877, I would have no other choice but to go on strike. The job is a risky one that puts me in danger every day. Adding another 10% reduction in salary, topped with working fewer days in the week, there is no way that a family can be supported properly. Disbelieve and fear shook my mind as I lie on my back, sitting on top of concrete sandwiched in between the hot metal hood of a car, as the weight pressed down against me it didn’t hurt, my body was too numb to feel anything. All I could feel was a car pushing me further into the ground pushing my lungs down and shutting air out of it. It felt too surreal I kept blinking as if I thought I’d wake up from this mess. I could see sirens and people gathering around me watching in disbelieve, I kept fading in and out of conscience I felt like I was close to death.…
