The nurse walked back and saw that the resident’s knee was open and was bleeding. She walked back to the nurse’s station and called the skin nurse to ask him his opinion on what she should do. He told her to clean it out and put an alevon which is a Band-Aid that they use to put on skin tears to keep it from getting infected. We walked back to the room and cleaned it out really well and put the alevon on. We came back to the nurse’s station so the nurse could do and write the order to keep the alevon on. As we finished it was around two o’clock and the nurse was not doing much so she asked the D.O.N if I could leave. Although I do not work day shift I understand the struggle they go through every morning. For example, on day shift more people are awake and they use their call lights. They are needier during the day. At night they might pull their lights to use the bathroom or they might want a snack. During the day families are coming in and out of the facility, but at night the only people going out and coming back in are the staff members. During night-shift the only people that call are the doctors and staff members who are calling off for the next morning. During the day the phones never stop ringing. Family members are calling, the doctors are calling, and the staff still calls in to call
