Personal Narrative: Wonder Valley

As the bell rang at the end end of sixth hour at school everybody was in a rush to get to the buses, their cars, or their bikes and head home. I packed up my stuff and thanked the teacher as nobody ever does. As I left the room I realized that it was Friday and that I get to go to my dad’s house for the weekend. The thought was both exciting and exhausting stating the fact that his little homestead was out in the middle of Wonder Valley, California basically a desert wasteland but very peaceful and wondrous and that I had to ride my bike for miles and miles to get there. As I hopped on my bike and before riding off I took a drink of water and made sure I had my phone. As I crossed the border from Twentynine palms to Wonder Valley I could feel …show more content…
Some of these shacks are hideouts for criminals, art studios for artists, and homesteads but most are abandoned. I like to explore these shacks and collect interesting things that I find as I am riding through. I usually detour onto the dirt roads that emerge from the paved highway. Today I actually did turn left on a dirt road called Gehr Rd. I have not explored what is on this road but I will today. I parked my bike in front of the first abandoned shack I came across. As I walked up to the opening which was once was a door I felt really excited to see what was inside. I went into which was probably the bedroom because there was an old mattress which had broken down to the springs. I could see a light gleaming from the holes through the closet door and walked up to it. As I opened it I could feel heavy and powerful air suck me into the light. …show more content…
I then explained this to him and he actually and surprisingly did believe me. He said, “ I built it in my closet a few years ago with scrap parts and some chemicals I stole from the science teacher but I did not know it worked!!!” I hopped on my bike with him and we rode off towards his house. Going through the city it seemed even smaller than the present and very old fashioned. When we were riding through Wonder Valley my dad said, “so what happens to all these houses in the future.” Well, they sort of just stay the way they are but everything around and inside gets weathered and breaks down. We parked his bike in front of his house and it looked way better then in the present all cleaned up. We went to his closet and sure enough the light was gleaming brighter than ever. He said, “farewell and hope you get back safe and ask me in the future if he remembers this moment. Ok, and I will always come back and visit the past.he said, “I am going to push you in on the count of three. 1,2, …” , I turned around and gave him a hug “3” , he

The thing about running is that you hate it until it’s over, at least for me that’s true. Personally, I like running, and it gives me a chance to get out and work towards something. All throughout high school, I’ve run track, and for two years I ran cross-country, both are great sports. The two years I ran cross-country made me wish I ran all four years. If you’re part of more than one sport, it’s natural to choose a favorite.…

Your peripheral vision is gone—there’s complete focus, then a silence so muted that all you know is the feeling of your heart beating. Then, as you stand there motionless, you feel the adrenaline. I mean really feel it—a syrup coursing through your veins, yet not a syrup as it moves faster than blood. You know when it hits your heart because it starts beating faster, faster, faster, and then the feeling is gone. Then everything is gone—emotions, breath, sensation……

From my last 3 years of running cross county I have learned a lot of things. One is that you should never give up, second is that if you work hard enough then you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and third is how you can go from disliking something to loving something. How I've learned these things from cross county is when I first started cross country, my sophomore year I couldn't run to save my life. Coach would always time us on how fast we could run two miles and I would always be last and be so far behind everyone else which was quite embarrassing but I couldn't help it I had just started and I'd never ran before in my life, at my very first meet I couldn't even run the first mile and I ended up having to drop out. After that I didn't like cross county at all because I wasn't good at it…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

One Friday, in September I decided to go up to Neff’s Canyon to look at the fall colors. It had lightly rained the night before so the colors where especially bright and pretty. It was a warm but cloudy day. That night was the Homecoming football game and the weather forecast was 100% chance of rain. It was one of those days where all you want to do is go home and drink a cup of hot chocolate.…

Excitement built up inside of me. We were about an hour away from my aunt’s house; I loved the thought of being with my family, but I also loved the daring and silly activities that we did when we got there. That summer, we had gone to a strawberry farm. I thought that it was going to be incredibly monotonous and absurd; but I was wrong. It was torrid and unbearable in the summer heat, and when we arrived there, I sat back and dreaded the walk, but the summer brought great things to that…

The old stable that sits in the center of the lot is a bright red that has faded from many years of sunshine and is coated in a thick layer of dirt. The paint is chipped and many of the boards sag like the skin of someone with many years of wisdom. The sliding doors stand open wide; never in my life have I seen these doors shut. I take a few steps and dust is kicked up into the air and left there, floating and glittering in the sunlight.…

What Was I Doing I woke up at eight o’clock in the morning like any other day. I got out of the bed and pulled open the curtains to see what a beautiful day it was outside. The sky was crystal blue; the sun was shining, with a slight breeze. I could not have asked for a more perfect day. I went to the kitchen poured a glass of orange juice; and made some bacon, eggs, and toast for breakfast.…

The faint memory of my dad asking me if I had completed my homework hit me, disturbing my day dream as I blankly stared at the foggy car window. It was a very capturing scene as the stars swimmed within the sky. The darkness of the sky as it surrounds the moon is oddly captivating, leading me to forget any misery I’ve ever encountered. It was finally 9 pm and my feet were aching when we finally decided to return from the Ohio State Fair. The drive wasn’t pleasant at all, having to be trapped in an small space for hours while we drove from Cleveland to Columbus.…
