I enrolled in Spanish again to make up that F and I enrolled in APEX classes, which is credit recovery classes for students who either earned a D or an F on a course throughout the year, APEX allows students to be able to make up classes. I understand that it wouldn't be the same since some of the classes i got Ds in were AP classes, but i was determined to complete all my APEX classes with an A. This year I feel so determined to finish this year strong and try to make up for the failures i had in the past. My transcript isn't the best looking and my GPA isn't as high as i wanted it to be, but i am a very determined student and person. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I brought it up in conversation with almost anyone I talked to. I thought about it during the day, and dreamt about it at night. The night before the test, I had a dream that I had failed, and my dad forced me to walk home. This was one dream that I didn’t want to come…

“You cheated”, slipped from my mouth. I was referring to my English Class. Frustration, filled my voice as I was disappointed in myself because I received a B. In my life I have only ever got one B and for reasons beyond my control and to complex to be explained. However, this B feels like my first real B. It resembles the first course that has ever conquered me. The whole time I have been striving to get A’s not for my gpa but for myself because it was something attainable that I was certain I could accomplish and that seemed to solely rest upon me.…

Failure has always been a huge aspect in my life recurring in everything I indulge myself in; whether it be academically, athletically, or even Boy Scouts. I tend to have a knack for challenging myself till I am unable to complete the task given to me, whilst this could be good in some ways it also puts me in some not favorable situations. More recently I had the thought of completing a bike race , after receiving medical attention for a concussion and a broken collarbone. This was not necessarily the smartest decision on my part, especially since the race was longer than I have ever raced before and also a three day event.…

As the stadium lights slowly began to blind me, the smile I was wearing started to fade as I felt an overwhelming, nauseating sensation flow over my entire body; I thought that flags only slipped through hands on battlefields, not on a Friday night during a high school half time show. Failure is a one-way mirror. When standing in front of the mirror, the failure simply stares back in the form of a reflection. My first performance for the high school color guard amounted to the show flag slipping through my clutches and slamming onto the freshly cut, football field grass. The searing embarrassment that followed felt like the end of the world.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

I thought about what I did right and wrong. I realized that I should have asked more questions the day before the test. I would often be seen as an introvert, but I learned that I needed to start speaking up for myself; rather than my parents, staff, or friends speaking on my behalf. As my high school years went on, I maintained my grades. I was taking notes, asking questions, and developing study skills; so that failure according to my standards would not occur again.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

To be honest, I hate school with a passion, yet I love learning as much as living. As a child, schooling created a feeling of loneliness and sadness that echoed throughout my life, even now. I didn’t meet the standard levels for literacy and was separated from my classmates in elementary school for special reading and writing classes. Also the lack of freedom to say and move the way I wished to, and the rebellion that stemmed out of me in middle school due to these limitations. Finally, the conforming in high school to appease my mother, friends that drove me over the edge, yet even now I feel the same bull-crap in college.…
