Personal Narrative: Why I Volunteer At Vacation Bible School

Decent Essays
I have volunteered at my church by cleaning, helping with Vacation Bible School during the summer, and helping with the Fish Fries during Lent. I started volunteering at my church a couple years ago when they needed help with somethings. The first time I starting it was only for Vacation Bible school and the only reason I started was because they need more staff to help with the kids. From then on I have helped every year at the St. Michael's Church in Emlenton and I have helped with so many things during Vacation Bible School. Some of the stuff I help with Vacation Bible School was food, crafts, and games and they started a new thing last year that you take picture of the kids doing actives about god and how much we love him. During the school

There are many stories told in my family. Anyone and everyone told them, some nights it would be my mom and other nights it would be my grandpa. There would always be two stories read; the first one would be from a book called “My Book of Bible Stories”. This book has so many pictures asks questions has descriptive words and is still one of my favorite books. After that story whoever was telling the story would make up a silly story usually about a blue or green man with a giraffe that went traveling and exploring (I have no clue why).…

On August 2nd, 1941 First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt wrote this quote in her daily newspaper column, “My Day.” In the thick of World War II Roosevelt’s quote inspired many as they fought through their hardships. People learn from doing. We maintain the values that our role models instill in us, but as we gain experience, we fashion our own beliefs. A mirror of this in my life is my work with the organization Soles for Jesus.…

In the past few years, I’ve volunteered with a variety of organizations from National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Key Club. I have also co-founded a Community Outreach Club at high school. Through the Church I’ve assisted with Vacation Bible School and middle school retreats. One of my favorite memories came from volunteering for the first time with National Spanish Honor Society. Choosing to participate in this program was not a difficult decision, since I knew I wanted to continue practicing my Spanish and volunteer in the community at the same time.…

That is what makes me proud of myself. I serve others every Sunday, because I volunteer to be a teacher assistant. In the mornings I assist the 5 year old teacher and the first grade, and in the afternoon I assist the 1st grade through 3rd grade teacher. As a volunteer I take kids to the bathroom, and cheek kids into the class, help set up games, get materials for the teacher, and take care of kids on the playground. These are some of the the times I serve others.…

During my childhood and lower teens, I was very involved in church. I would go to every event or meeting put on by our church. Watching certain senior youth members, I didn’t understand why they would just come to the fun events.
