Personal Narrative: Why I Volunteer At Vacation Bible School

Decent Essays
I have volunteered at my church by cleaning, helping with Vacation Bible School during the summer, and helping with the Fish Fries during Lent. I started volunteering at my church a couple years ago when they needed help with somethings. The first time I starting it was only for Vacation Bible school and the only reason I started was because they need more staff to help with the kids. From then on I have helped every year at the St. Michael's Church in Emlenton and I have helped with so many things during Vacation Bible School. Some of the stuff I help with Vacation Bible School was food, crafts, and games and they started a new thing last year that you take picture of the kids doing actives about god and how much we love him. During the year we were away, I worked a few different preschool jobs that helped enhance my skills as an educator but it wasn’t until we returned that I truly found God’s calling for my career. This essay is one step of my journey to finding my passion and my commitment to continue learning. I started my career at a small half-day preschool in my church as an assistant, while I worked on my associates’ degree. I soon found…

My church has many opportunities to get involved, while looking at theses opportunities I chose the ones that fit myself best. These consist of being a youth worker in the nursery and participating in teaching sunday school during church services. If I could change anything it would be to volunteer more in the kitchen and in the summer programs. This would let me fellowship and grow with other believers. This summer I worked as a youth worker for a concert where I helped prepare food and brought it to the bands playing at my church.…

As a child I remember sitting in church and dropping a dollar in the offering basket every Sunday, right after my parents put their envelope in. Whenever I would get allowance my parents would help me figure out what amount was ten percent and I would put that in the offering on Sunday. The church we attended put that money towards dozens of community outreach programs as well as long distance mission projects. Once I started in high school I was able to go along on some of these missions’ projects. My freshman year, I went with my father to Honduras were we worked on houses, and provided medical support to hundreds of Hondurans with a group from our church.…

My Experience as a Summer Reading Program Helper One of the best experiences I had in my life was volunteering at Harold Keller Elementary School’s summer reading lap program. I worked with this program for four summers in a row. I helped the teachers with their children by teaching them reading and writing skills. Also, I would help the teachers get ready for the upcoming school year by helping them decorate the classroom. During the journey, I grew a lot as a person.…

I attended Saturday service so that I could teach. I assumed that Salem was where God was calling me but my reoccurring dream did not look like Salem. I continued to teach until I was relieved of my duties. I was never officially told why I was relieved but my gender played a huge role. I began co-teaching 8th grade Sunday school and was able to develop a Sunday Vacation Bible Class for the entire children’s Sunday…

I understand the need of fellowship with one another and that church is an excellent way to learn about God and all of His mysterious ways, but I cannot just excite myself about the sermon. Though church is one of the primary ways I’ve heard about God, the biggest impact in my life would be Circle C Ranch, a camp that I went to for ten years and worked as a camp counselor for this summer. I started going when I was eight years old which is where I first accepted Jesus into my heart. From then on out, I just kept going and hearing the same sort of sermon in their chapel, though it became more understandable and relatable as I grew older. The last year that I camped, when I was around seventeen years old, everything truly made sense of what God had planned in my life.…
