Personal Narrative: Why I Quit The Wrestling Team

Improved Essays
The time I quit the wrestling team was a really crazy moment in my life. He was more on the aggressive side and did not want me to quit how I wanted to quit which was all at once. He told me to take a few days off practice and then see how I felt after, which is what I did and I came back on a Friday. I still decided I wanted to quit and originally I had my own conversation …show more content…
I really did want to focus on my school work since my grades were struggling at the time. My grades did rise a little bit, about a month give or take, but they skipped back down eventually and evened out to how they normally our. That was the reason I told people when they asked me why. People seem to not care as much about what sports you play if they are not one of the big sports like Football, Basketball, or Baseball. I really think its ok to just take a year off if you feel like you need it if the team does not desperately need you. I was going to be a back up and the coaches would like to tell me I would be a starter but I would have to lost 7 pounds for that to be the case and i had already lost 5 after the first 2 days of practice. The truth is I quit because I hated the practices because they were really tough and bring and I did not feel it was worth it if I was not going to be starting anyways. I also did not have fun or like the team enough to stay on it, but again it was not that I hated them, I just needed a break from the sport in the end. I have returned this year and in my complete honest opinion I wish I would have stayed on the team just for the simple fact that I missed out on so many

For over ten years my average day consisted of four main activities: school, homework, gymnastics, and sleep. While school breaks or holidays may have upset three of the four, competitive gymnastics was always a constant. Three hours a day five days a week with no off season left no room for apathy. During my years as a gymnast, I learned the lessons I am sure every athlete is taught— dedication, time management, and determination. However, gymnastics taught me two lessons that other athletes fail to learn thoroughly.…
