Personal Narrative: Why I Love My Name

Improved Essays
I love my name. There is nothing embarrassing or funny about it. There is absolutely nothing I would rather change it to. I do not have any reason to want to change my name. In my opinion, names are a very important piece of someone's life. My full name is Tanner Roy Spencer, my parents told me that they chose my first name because they wanted to choose a name that is not a very common name. I have only met three people ever with the same name as me. Once I met a girl at a pool when I was young, there was also a kid on my baseball team, and there is a senior with the same name as me.

When I was two years old my parents gave me the nickname "Tank," because they said that when I was that age, I was the fastest kid they had ever seen at my age. My parents said that they'd just be sitting there and I was playing something and they would just randomly say, "Tanner, run," and then I would stand up and start running and they would say, "faster, faster" just to see how fast I could run. They would always say how it sounds funny and that, "it's not an awesome name," and then I would hit them with the story. I was named after my great grandfather. He was my best friend. I did everything with him. I would go to work with him, I would watch college sports with him, I was with him more than I was with my Mom and Dad. One day my Great Grandfather, my Grandfather, and I was working and my Great Grandfather told us that he was going to run to his shop, that was only one mile away from where we were, to grab something and that he would be right back, however, he never came back. He was hit by a semi on the driver's side because the semi ran a stop sign. He died because one of his ribs snapped off and stabbed him in the heart. And it wasn't until sitting there for two hours until my grandfather and I knew what happened. My Great Grandfather also was in the

My name, Jenna Lee Wood, is a traditional Southern double name that comes from my mother's side of the family. After a brief interview with my mom, I learned that my first name comes from the 1980's soap opera, "Dallas". My parents loved the name Jenna from the start and knew that if I was a girl, I would definitely be named Jenna. The real struggle came with the middle name, because I was the first girl of my generation of the Wood's; everyone felt that I absolutely had to be named after the Wood side considering it was an abomination that my first name did not automatically come from said side. The only 21st century name was Katherine, so my name would have been Jenna Katherine-…

When I think about the boy who I was growing up, the young adult I am today, and the man I plan to be in the forthcoming years, one aspect of my life stands out to me far more radiantly than anything else: my culture, my skin, my identity as a Bangladeshi-American. There aren't many clubs or organization for Bangladeshi Americans such as myself. Make no mistake, there are certainly events for Bangladeshis living in the United states, many that I have attended due to various entreaties from my parents. These are event where the only language spoken is one that I barely speak (Bengali), the only music conversed about is that which I don't listen to or understand, and the only events discussed happen in another country that I have spent only a…
