Personal Narrative: Why I Hate Reading

Decent Essays
When I was a little girl I use to hate reading, it’s not that it was hard I just didn’t want to take the time to read and build up my knowledge. I was the opposite child in school all the kids could read the small basic words and not the hard big words; as for me I was the opposite I could read the hard big words and not the small basic words. As I grew up I started liking reading more, then I had gotten to Chase middle I did so much reading that when I read a good book I couldn’t put it down I had to read it until the end. My freshmen year I had learned how to do N.E.R.D. words and it was the first time I had ever done it and it was hard for me to get the concept of it but I finally got it. When people act obnoxious and disrespectful, I would just like to go up to them and say “I was at about six there. Don’t make me go to ten”, a quote said by Dale in Step Brothers. My pet peeves involve the disrespectful actions of high school students. It really irks me when people in band just don’t play their music correctly or march properly. If we have been practicing the same song for a short amount of time, then I understand if most don’t pick up the notes right away.…

I think my reading has improved because I use better vocabulary and I can understand what I am reading. The reading strategies have helped me to become a better reader. I still rely on DJE, T2T like I did when I took basic reading as well. They are very helpful strategies that help me to read better and think about what I am reading. For this and other classes my goals are to understand what I am reading and being able to sum up what I read with very little difficulty.…

I never intended to be an illegal smuggler. Seriously. But when four-year-old me found out that preschool had "naptimes" (in which apparently nobody napped, making it a waste of time to me), I decided to take matters into my own hands, with drastic measures. The next day, my top-secret contraband came in with me, in the form of a book. At 1:30, while everyone else did whatever preschoolers do during naptime, the book snuck out of its carefully concealed hiding place and I disappeared into its pages.…

Now I could lie and make up stuff that made me like reading and writing but I see no point in that. Honestly I don’t have a lot of memories of reading and writing from when I was a little kid and I can tell you now that football hasn’t helped me at remembering those memories either. With that being said I do remember some memories, some are good and also bad.…

Does rejection or determination push you to go beyond the limits of what one expects of you? Most everyone would say it does, but does this only affect those of us who want to be writers? It definitely does not, nor is it limited to anyone of a particular language. People of different backgrounds, all have the same urge to learn something not entirely expected of them, even if it is just a different language. The writings of people, while very similar, have a great number of differences.…

“Everyone is a reader… Some just haven’t found their favorite book yet.” I remember how I used to like playing with my electric car or bike and especially caring about collecting the hot wheels cars collection. Like any child at this age, all he cares about is jumping around on sofas, running through doors and breaking stuff and walking on it. But here comes the dream breakers who are our literacy sponsors.…

Going through elementary school reading was always a struggle for me. It was challenging for me to fully comprehend what we were doing and reading in the class. Every friday I would go to see a teacher one on one to practice reading it involved being timed and having to tell her everything I had just read so that it would build up my comprehension. I remember feeling very embarrassed to be pulled out of class for extra help. Going through that didn't help that much, I was missing class…

Flaws: Internal and External The day I found my rash, I did not know it would be a life long struggle. I remember my family telling me that it was just a rash and that it would go away, it never did. It may not seem like a significant problem, but at 7 years old it was. This led me to see that everyone has their flaws, big or small.…

Learning to read is a skill many can obtain quickly or not so well. Myself, on the other hand was one of the many children who struggled with not only the thought of reading, but the actual process of reading not only a book, but sentences, word and sounding out words. Struggling through elementary with reading problems and on and off again help made it seem even worse. Going into kindergarten was intimidating, with all the bright colored posters with words even I couldn’t read. Having to be assigned seats next to strangers who soon would become my closest friends.…

A girl at school once asked me, “How are you in this constant state of reading?” I laughed because the answer is simple: I love to read. I chose books as a symbol because reading and literature is very important to my culture and my family. When my father was young, his grandmother used to read to him every day, and my father did the same for my siblings and I. Ever since I was a little girl I have loved to read, and I own many books that I keep on shelves.…

Who doesn’t struggle with writing? I know I always have struggled with writing, for the longest time I didn’t even really understand the differences in sentences, and it is something that’s still confuses me a little bit. To be completely honest I sometimes procrastinate longer than I should when it comes to writing, so I don’t always review the finished product the way I should. Life gets in the way occasionally, and I attempt to convince myself that I have plenty of time to finish they assignment. This particularly gave me problems in high school.…
