Personal Narrative: Why I Hate Baylor

Improved Essays
I used to hate Baylor. Even the idea of attending Baylor seemed ludicrous to me. My conception of Baylor was very limited and only consisted of that which at had seen at my small high school. Every person that I knew that went to Baylor was crazy. For example, was one girl in particular that truly convinced me that Baylor students were…unhinged. All she would talk about was going to Baylor; she was probably wrapped in a green and gold blanket after she was born, dressed as a bear every year for Halloween, and if she could would probably change her name from Elizabeth Bailey to Elizabeth Baylor. If only crazy people went there then I wanted no part of it. But despite it all I began my application. As the incessant question of, “What colleges …show more content…
It’s a school of crazy! Wait. What if they’re not crazy? But did you see Elizabeth? That wasn't crazy that was passion. Each person that I saw fade into the northern sunset as they made the trek up to Waco had one thing in common: they were passionate. I was passionate. I pick something that I want or like and I cling to it. I started theatre in seventh grade to escape my crazy band teacher and found myself six years later spending every extra hour I had at rehearsal acting or helping out around the set. In eighth grade, I took a picture. It was a good picture. I thought to myself, “That was fun. Let’s do it again!” And thats how I started in photography. Junior year I started a part time job on top of theatre to buy a new camera. In elementary school I saw the tech booth at a Sunday service and it looked quite interesting. In middle school I began working tech for my church changing lights, switching slides. I eventually became the A/V team leader for grace kids and even trained the rising students. I devoted what would seem like crazy amounts of time to the activities not because I was crazy but because I’m passionate. Baylor is place full of passion that I realized would perfectly fit me and my drive. Being surrounded my a community of passionate people and strong academics would allow me to continue pursuing passions and hopefully finding new ones. I want to go to Baylor because it’s a place full of passion and I believe that I can

TCU is great fit for me because it is a smaller university. I like how TCU has less than 9,000 undergraduates and has a 13 to 1 student to faculty ratio. This means students will get more individual attention. The city of Fort Worth seems to be a great college town and TCU has great school spirit, which both work well together to offer a great college experience. TCU is a great fit for me because it has an encouraging learning environment that will allow me to excel in my studies and grow as a…

Buzzer beaters, doing things at the last second, and flying by the seat of our pants has always have been a motto of the Kaliner family. As a child, I grew up in the suburbs of Wayne, Pennsylvania in a middle-class family with the standard value of keeping family first. At about 4, my family and I moved to Villanova, Pennsylvania, where my life finally kickstarted. Enrolling in school, competing in sports, and loving my family, Villanova was where this all started. Growing up loving the sport of basketball, my heart and soul was always with the Wildcats of Villanova.…

I started attending Lone star college right after high school, at first, I began with the typical high school graduate state of mind, which was that college was going to be a breeze and that it would all be fun and games; more worried about what was going on in my social life rather than studying the books. Especially since I had no real responsibilities to handle or much life experience. Around my first year of college, I started dating this girl and not long after we conceived our first son. Once this happened, my focus slowly shifted from school to working a full-time job at a welding shop in order to provide for my family. I still tried to attend class but was unable to find the balance between work, school and family and this reflected my grades.…

Personally, I think my constant strive to be better at what I love to do says a lot about me and shows my determination. My parents have always said the talent will only get you so far and that hard work and dedication is what will get you all the way. Being a part of theater for about 5 years now has also taught me a lot about empathy and working as a team. Learning how to embody and live as someone else for just a little while has made me a more empathetic person outside of the theater and made me more understanding to those who live differently than I do or have different beliefs and values. Rehearsing and performing with the same group of people for 4 weeks to even a few months can bring people quite close.…
