Our country has quite an interesting history, which begins from the time Christopher Columbus accidentally discovered the Americas while in search for a quicker water route to Asia. Afterwards, several countries such as the Dutch, Spanish and English explored North America’s interior. Soon the English founded colonies and in 1607 the first successful colony, Jamestown (in Virginia), was founded. Others had came soon after, such as Massachusetts (the Puritans), Pennsylvania (the Quakers), Maryland (the Catholics), New York, the Carolinas, and New Jersey. Britain used the new resources and industrial opportunities from their colonies to their advantage, soon the colonies soon grew more wealthy than Britain. More people began to move from Europe to the colonies and when the time came Britain had her colonies fight in the French and Indian war (its American name) or seven years war (its European name). This war was against the French and their Native American allies, a war which Britain won.
After this war, Britain had plenty of war debt and was in need for money that can pay off this debt and also support a standing army. Before the war, Britain had never previously taxed the colonies and when they finally did the colonies grew …show more content…
So after some thought I realized that I was proud because of the many freedoms that our country has to offer. For example, our religious freedoms; unlike scenarios in the past for example the whole Catholic versus Protestant situation in Europe many years ago. This was when people were be persecuted for their religious beliefs, which the United States does not do. Another reason why I’m proud is because is because of our freedom of speech, which can also be compared to the previous situation I named. If I were to choose to be apart of any other country, I denied that opportunity because of how fantastic this country
