Personal Narrative: Why Does Cameron Play?

Improved Essays
“Mom” I yelled as I ran down the stairs as fast as my short five year old legs would take me. I take a turn into the kitchen where I know she will be. “Tori won’t let me play with her! Everytime I ask her she just looks at me.” My mom walks to the stairs waits a few seconds and then comes back. A few seconds later my older sister Tori appears in the kitchen. A silence stretches long between us. Layna dabs at her eyes with the sleeve of her thin sweater, then reaches down and grasps my red-tipped fingers as we approach our mother’s house. Without a word, we step up onto the porch stairs that rasp in complaint, and I hold my breath, waiting for the curtains to swish, and the glimpse of Mom’s beaming face before she bustled towards the front door in her excitement to see us, throwing open the door to smother us in hugs, all wrinkled skin and senior sweat, and the scent of home.…

There was a point in my life not so long ago when I struggled to separate an actor from the role he played. In fact, I can remember intimating to my mother that I didn't like the character "Will" in Cedar Cove, and I wasn't sure if I liked the actor who played him either. In fact, when I found out that Will figured into the plot more principally in season three, I was a bit disgruntled at first. However, the reviewer within me compelled me to watch season three with an open mind. And I will admit once I made the decision that Cameron Bancroft was merely a masterful actor portraying the role, I realized what an adept actor he is.…

Marianne walked into the room and sat down and immediately began,” As I said before, my parents decided I needed help, so they sent me to a shrink… the shrink was interesting. He never really did his job… he just sat there and watched me colour. He would then hang the pictures that weren’t disturbing on his wall so he could show my parents whilst the other pictures that I would draw were put into my file so he could study them. He wanted my parents to believe that I just had a very active imagination instead of something actually wrong with me. Soon my parents stopped bringing me to the shrink every single week.…

Last night as I watching TV, I heard a soft knock on the back door. I pondered upon who it could have been. My sunburn lines between my shorts and socks symbolized the restless, tiring hours spent out on the field. Every Tuesday and Thursday, for two and a half hours, the sun scorched my body while my legs would scrape into the ground. The cluster consisted of the seniors’ looming bodies that would go shoulder to shoulder against my own freshman self as our feet would battle for control. While this exhaustion enthralled and encouraged my game, the sprints, planks, runs, and more caused me to dread going to that grassy field every week. The humidity produced heavy, useless pants from my lungs as my throat would feel as if it was closing in from a claustrophobic nightmare.…
