I finally came to a stop and started to cry because it was too painful for me to handle. Now you are probably confused about what is going on. How did I fall and why was I tumbling? Well in order for you to understand the story, we need to start from the beginning. It was a sunny day in Park City, Utah. This chapter reminded me of a vacation that my family and I took to the Grand Canyon when I was in middle school. On this particular vacation, I had gotten my hands on one of those books that you just can’t put down. I quickly learned the art of walking and reading at the same time. I was good at avoiding collisions with other people. Correction: other people were good at avoiding collisions with me.…

Failure has always been a huge aspect in my life recurring in everything I indulge myself in; whether it be academically, athletically, or even Boy Scouts. I tend to have a knack for challenging myself till I am unable to complete the task given to me, whilst this could be good in some ways it also puts me in some not favorable situations. More recently I had the thought of completing a bike race , after receiving medical attention for a concussion and a broken collarbone. This was not necessarily the smartest decision on my part, especially since the race was longer than I have ever raced before and also a three day event.…

I ended up only being out for 4 weeks, spending everyday in Physical Therapy. It was extremely painful, mentally and physically, because I had just gotten a new skill and I had already lost it. I did not like sitting out, watching my teammates, so I kept working to get stronger and eventually healed.…

It is the morning of July 4th, 2008: I groan as my mother gently whispers, “teneshi yene mar (Get up honey)”. Struggling I open my eyes and notice the trembling cabin, I turn to my mother with a look of concern and she reaches out her hand and squeezes my own looking up at me, “we are going to be okay Mar”. A couple of moments later our plane has landed, we gather up our belongings and make our way towards the exit filled with people attached to their screens and MP3 players. The airport is filled with an undercurrent of anticipation, impatience, and boredom; bodies scramble back and forth from one gate to another. “The fear of falling apart”, “Words are knives and often leave scars”, and “Don’t try to sleep through the end of the world and bury me alive. Cause’ I won’t give up without a fight” by Panic! At The Disco from their song This is Gospel is very important to me because it’s like saying no matter how hard you push and pull on me I won’t give up and that’s really encouraging to me. The way I can apply it to my life is I was bullied, cursed at, and yelled at all throughout middle school by other students and no matter how hard I wanted to give up and just crawl into bed and say “No, go away.”…

The thought of accidentally dropping my poles enters my mind as I observe lost items in the snow below. As we ascend, more of the slope enters my field of vision. At first, the skiers and snowboarders in my view move at a leisurely pace as they reach the bottom; but as altitude increases, so does the skill and speed of the people coming down. The added elevation diminishes the number of trees providing protection from the bitter wind that starts hitting us like pins and needles. I pull my bandanna up and fit my goggles to the shape of my helmet, in an attempt to block out the frigid breeze.…
