Personal Narrative: Why Am I Volunteer

Decent Essays
I have been volunteering full time in India & Germany, since April '16. My work initiated some effective fundraising and IT practices. Prior to this, I volunteered for two organizations, volunteering 5-10 hours per month. My roles there ranged from event manager to classroom tutor, to facilitator of health checkup camps. In light of my long-term goals, my current role is a step to get acquainted with administrative positions at NGOs. I derive a deep sense of fulfillment from my service towards underprivileged children; in my opinion, bringing change to a child's life leaves a long-lasting footprint on

Since my second semester at UT, I have devoted 15 hours a week to volunteering as a Young Life leader. Every week I help run a club meeting for dozens of high school kids, manage a planning meeting with my teammates, and lead a small group for sophomore girls. I spend hours at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School watching games and performances, and simply getting to know these young adults. Through investing this time to build relationships as a mentor and role model, I strove to show these girls that they are significant, noticed and valued. Volunteering as a Young Life leader has taught me invaluable lessons in building relationships, caring for others, and working with a team that will help me to be a more supportive and productive physician…

Rationale for Seeking Specialization in a Clinical Counseling Program After reading the overview of Capella University’s Master of Mental Health Counseling program and speaking with one of your advisors, I understand that this particular program will help me get right to where I would like to be in my profession, which is a Licensed Professional Counselor. There honestly isn’t any population of people that I’m not interested in working with, after taking different courses in my undergraduate program, I found myself interested in working with all populations of people. It has always been a desire of mine to help others in any way that I possibly could. A main reason that I loved helping others came from watching my mother help others as…

A veteran to me is a patriotic, unselfish, brave, and courageous person, who would sacrifice time from their families to serve and protect our nation. As Jeff Miller once said, “The willingness of America’s Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Veterans from every country have served throughout many wars. They have put their blood, sweat, and effort into doing the right and beneficial thing for their nation. Being a veteran means not only to serve in the military, but it means to have the selflessness and courage to go off to war to ensure the freedom of the nation.…

Be the change you wish to see in the world; Mahatma Gandhi's words of wisdom still ring true to me in my everyday life. His words invoke me to look within myself and evaluate how my good deeds can somehow be powerful enough to change the world. Volunteering at Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls kindled a fire within me and made me realize that I will not tolerate being a bystander in the world; I must be proactive in order to see results. This center allowed me to see how simply packing, sorting, and shining shoes can help a young child's get to school easier, allow a young soccer play to sign up for their local team, or protect a child from walking on harsh terrain while trying to collect water. The reason why I volunteer is because I wish for the child's troubles to be nonexistent, I want to live in a world where people don’t have to worry about having a function pair of shoes.…

When I grow up, I want to change the world! Changing the world one day would make me feel really good. Three ways I would change the world are: make sure everyone has a shelter to live in; help more lost, sick, and hurt animals, and make sure no one is hungry. I would like to help homeless people have a nice place to stay. When I’m driving downtown I see a lot of homeless people on the streets; dirty, and sad.…

I am someone who smiles Someone always telling jokes to make sure no one thinks something is wrong So no one suspects a thing when they see my smile I am someone who fixes the feelings of those whose hearts are shattering like pieces of glass I am someone who loves to dress up and wear makeup so no one sees how truly I am From the bags from staying up at night to the red from crying, both under the concealer Tears behind my eyeshadow-covered eyelids Cracks underneath my red lipstick And the pain within the mouth that contains whitened teeth…

“Congratulations!!” read one post on a friend’s Facebook wall, the day after she landed an office job in her field. “So amazing!” read another. “Are you ready for your big-girl job?” asked a third well-wisher, accompanied by a GIF of Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope. “I can’t believe I finally have a real job” was the text she sent me a few days later, from the comfort of her desk, where she had been hired to do operations work for an organization she had once, a few years prior, interned for.…

I started volunteering at my church a couple years ago when they needed help with somethings. The first time I starting it was only for Vacation Bible school and the only reason I started was because they need more staff to help with the kids. From then on I have helped every year at the St. Michael's Church in Emlenton and I have helped with so many things during Vacation Bible School. Some of the stuff I help with Vacation Bible School was food, crafts, and games and they started a new thing last year that you take picture of the kids doing actives about god and how much we love him.…

Volunteering One day, I walked to my friends house. Her mom had just had a baby boy. Just by looking at her, I could tell she was exhausted. So I offered to babysit the baby, so she wouldn’t have to worry about when her baby's diaper needed to be changed, or when he needed to be fed. She said I didn’t have to, but she knew I had a baby brother.…

In this organization, I was able to help others in such a big way. I am very passionate about caring for children and helping others. I don’t like seeing people suffer, so I try my best to help others become the best that they can become. As an assistant, I helped in organizing donation events, which raised hundreds of dollars, and gathered materials for gifts and packed them together to give out to the public. I also aided in preparing the schedule for the mission work in different areas of Haiti by planning out three trips.…
