Who knew the day I was looking forward to for the longest of time would be the worst day of my life? Who knew that it would affect the rest of my life? Who knew that I would shed so many tears everyday beyond that point? That’s the thing… nobody did. No one knows when these kind of things are going to happen. There’s no way to prevent them, unless you lock yourself in your room for the rest of your life. Where I am now is not a happy place. Just keep that in mind when I tell you my story.
My mom, dad, brother, and I were all sitting at the kitchen table. My dad said, “ Are you ready for your cross country meet tonight, Josie? I know that you’ve been training pretty hard for it.” He was right. I had been running so much that I went through two pairs of shoes. I was so excited for this day, but I turned out to be more nervous than I had ever been. All my teammates crowded around, wishing each other good luck. The official called everybody up to the starting line. It took a few minutes for everyone to get settled. I heard the gun being shot, and I ran.
