Personal Narrative: Who In The Hell

Decent Essays
So, recently everyone has been attacking 17 year old Madison Beer over the fact that she was at the beach with her boyfriend, and when he picked her up they were able to see the fact that she had her period. People jumped to assuming that she wore a white bikini on purpose to try and get attention, or that she put fake blood on her bikini to get talked about…

So, my question is: Who in the hell would want to get attention due to their period?

I don’t know about you, but I literally hide in my bedroom whenever I have my period. So good on her for going out, especially to the beach of all places! — It sickens me that not only people in general are judging her for it, but WOMEN are judging her over it all.. Fellow women who knows how it is

“Oppression: disguised freedom” "A girl should be two things: Classy and Fabulous," we have probably all heard this quote attributed to the famous designer Coco Chanel. I have personally heard many of my female friends praise it, but what caught my attention was how even in modern societies, we still come across norms and stereotypes like this surrounding the role that a woman should play in society. The norms, stereotypes and cultural myths surrounding gender roles have changed with time, but the way in which gender is normalized and the psychological pressure that society applies over women still continues to be the same. The roles we fulfill in society are part of identities that we acquire through the normalization of gender in our cultures.…

According to Conger (2015) it was illegal in the United States for all men to be topless in public up until the late 1930’s. Even bathing suits for men had to cover their nipples, and it was fortified that the suit be loose instead of form fitting. Conger went on to discuss how the movie Tarzan and the Apes started a domino effect when Johnny Weissmuller wore only a loincloth in the film, thus showing his chest. Due to Weissmuller doing so, it lead to more shirtless males in movies which then influenced more shirtless men in public. After a series of men protesting the ban on male’s being topless, a New York judge overturned the state’s ban of topless men.…

It’s very crucial that you get your feelings out, but don’t ever inflict harm on your own body because your body is so sacred. You can overcome and get through anything,” says Demi Lovato. Teenage pop sensation Demi Lovato is just one of the many examples of child stars who have acquired mental illnesses.…

For this assignment, I started with a two Cosmopolitan magazine and started flipping through the pages of them. At first, it seemed impossible to find an ad that objectified women in order to sell a product, that is until I hit the latest fashion trends pages. It was there that I was reminded how these images were similar to what I once wanted to emulate when I was older. In fact, due to mass media, I wanted to be the tall, big chested, leggy blonde with a great body. Oddly enough I got some of the things I wished for such as being the big chested blonde girl, which now I loath, due to the fact that men objectify me and my body due to the expectations media have constructed over the years.…

When 18-year-old American actress and singer Ariel Winter posted a picture to Instagram of her and her nieces in which she was wearing a two-piece swimsuit, she received a barrage of hateful comments on the social media website and application, most of which suggested that she was “asking for it” and that contained derogatory words such as “slut” in reference to her attire (Kimble). Winter’s experience is simply one of many such instances on the social photo sharing application and website Instagram, where women are consistently “slut shamed” for the pictures they post of themselves. Slut shaming is defined as the notion where a woman’s reputation and representation is studied closely as a form of discipline through the codes of sexual conduct…

When women decide to make a bold move in the media it can either backfire completely or inspire an entire generation of young girls. It is common that girls are told to cover up and be modest as their bodies change and mature, while young men are not pressured to cover up any parts of their body at any time in their life. This has resulted in a society that constantly judges every move that a woman makes, especially when it has to do with her own body. The worst part of this situation is that women are the prime suspects for bringing their fellow women down. It is hard enough to take criticism from a man, let alone someone who could be in the exact same position.…

As a society, we are constantly bombarded with arguments as we go throughout the day. Whether they are telling us what we should believe, do, or buy, there is an expectation for us to respond either through our actions or our beliefs. Over time, subconsciously, these ideas become a part of the way we view the world. Advertisements are a common form of this process. They are presenting an argument selling something to their audiences.…
