“Where are they?”
“Let's go” Nick yelled up into the house

Nick, Tyler, Aj,and J.r, all of them are my cousins some closer than others. We were all in for a scare. On our yearly trip, we always went down to the ocean just before the sun fell below the warm blue horizon. We all happily skipped down to the sandy beach passing the creepy abandoned house. We all stopped in our tracks once we got to the top of the stairs overlooking the sandy below. The waves were nothing, like a pin dropped onto a pool full of jello.
“Not worth” Harrison confessed
“What do you mean?” I argued
“There are no waves we should just go up” Harrison justified
A couple more voices joined in and we agreed to stay.
Getting in the water was painful, like getting in the snow barefoot with wet feet. After a while of slowly wobbling our way into the water we all met up at the sandbar and talked of memories and told scary stories. Due to the freezing water beneath us Aj and I decided we would swim back to the house to the warm relief of a hot shower, though not to plan. Unluckily for me Aj was the best swimmer in the family leaving me in the frozen dust, the water becoming cold and colder and my head bobbing up and

Aj and I yelled for almost a helpless distance. the water, JR miraculously heard us. He began paddling in, but the shark was closing in on his location. He alarmed all the cousins and they all scrambled in, once they clawed out of the water the blue fin returned into the icy waters. The spot was so crowded that it could be easily confused by time square; huge masses of people rushing up and down with their shiny fiberglass boards paddling into the water while the sun slowly rose. In the parking lot I spotted two great friends of ours, Tanaig and Julian. Tanaig, still dry, stated “Iv’e een’ watching the last couple sets and it’s way to crowded.” We all agreed and thought that we would just not surf that day, but Julian out of nowhere said in an eager voice. “How about we search…?”…

Leaving all my belongings behind, I head straight to the sea and paddle for the giant’s causeway where the waves looked clean. I become in an intense combined state of euphoria, peace, presence and excitement; it’s kind of like time ceases. Paddling out wasn’t as hard as I thought. But before I get to too relaxed, a large set breaks on the shallow sand bank. I was just caught on the inside.…

The waves softly crashed along the seashore and drew themselves nearer and nearer as if they were signaling for me to join them and play their games. Grinning to myself I decided that I would join in their fun. I took a giant deep breath and leaped into the glossy salted water. The water was cool and refreshing; I felt it slip through my hair making it sway in the water. I swam deeper and deeper into the turquoise ocean.…

After adjusting to the chill temperature of the water, I sat on some rocks and let the waves knock me around. On the other hand, the rest of my family had grown restless, wanting to brave the increasingly high waves. After treading water for a bit, my father decided it would be a great idea to swim to the buoy—really just a piece of wood—that was thirty feet away in the waves. My sister Sarah and I accepted the challenge…

Diving down is more fun than eating birthday cake and chocolate-chip-cookie-dough ice cream for breakfast. At the end of the day, as the tropical sunset fills the vibrant sky hues of magenta, scarlet, purple, violet, and dark orange, I pat my sister Courtney on her sunburned shoulder and say, “You know, it’s okay that you were too scared to jump off the waterfall today. Our fears are what make us…

My friends and I had just gotten off our bus to walk home. Our bus stop was in the cul-de-sac at the beginning of the neighborhood and we all lived either right in the middle or in the far back. It was a three-day weekend so we were all trying to figure what to do. Our choices were to either go fishing off the docks in the back of the neighborhood or go swimming from our small bit of sandy, muddy beach that has murky water coming up on it. I lived off the Lake Pontchartrain at the time.…

It was a cold, winter day in Denver, Colorado. The weather was freezing, almost to the point of snowfall, but only just about. Though it was frigid, there was still some rays from the Sun peaking out from the clouds, illuminating a little of what was a dark, gloomy day.
