People coming from a different planet would think every day things we do in life are weird. What we have adapted to and think are normal look very weird to others who haven’t seen people doing things like this. Such as someone who has never shaved before would think that is very odd to shave your beard. Or someone who has never seen a drive threw would think it’s weird to have people have food handed out the window. As we think other cultures are weird we have to look at the fact that our culture is weird to others People that have never seen basketball would thing it is a bunch of people running around with a ball.…

During the three nights of tryouts, I was always the first one to finish the sprints, I hustled on every play, and left everything I had on the court. Confident in the way I played, I checked the results when they came out–I had been cut for the second year in a row. My heart dropped and millions of thoughts ran through my mind–I should stop playing basketball, I wasted all my time on something useless, hard work does not pay off. After pondering on these thoughts for several days, I decided to rededicate myself to the sport; I found a more competitive AAU team to play for, IYB Basketball and Wayne PAL Wolfpack, and found myself a trainer. Everyday after finishing my schoolwork, I either went to the gym to lift and play basketball or went to an AAU practice or game.…

Cheerleading Tryouts “Come on Lauren you’ve been doing this way too long, you’ve been on the team every year since you were 14.” I said to myself as I walk through the halls of my High School. Today is May 24, the first day of the annual cheerleading try outs and for some reason I’m extremely nervous even though I’m a three year veteran. I go through my classes talking to all my other cheer friends saying how this is going to be a breeze and how we can’t wait to start the season even though my stomach is literally overwhelmed with butterflies. DING DING DING!!!…

Talking with these girls on and off the field helped me learn the individual skills, they all had to use on the field to help achieve the team goal of winning. After the season, I realized that it was a better decision for me to play on the JV team because I got a chance to play harder, to play more and to improve myself. Also I got the chance to increase my skills to meet my goal to make Varsity my senior year. Failing now makes me want to work that much harder to meet my goal as a senior and not just give up or call a quits. I believe that my failure was small in comparison to others failures, but yet again I was only a junior in high school.…

After my great workouts over the summer I wasn’t just aiming to play on JV. I was striving to play on Varsity and so were my fellow Junior classmates. On the first day of tryouts my coach pulled together all of the Juniors and told us that many of us would not make Varsity and that if we did not want to play on JV that we should tell him now. I, unlike many other Juniors, told him that I would be willing to play JV. After several intense days of tryouts I was finally told what team I would play for.…

Then, I started playing basketball in high school as part of my school’s team and I’ve been playing ever since.
