Personal Narrative-What's Outside Our House?

Improved Essays
It had been 31 years since humans wandered out of their homes in Division 3. After the nuclear war ended in 2020, the government of Havenbush divided the country up in three divisions. Division 1, was full of people who were affiliated with the government, they were the only ones with the freedom to legally break the New Amendment. Division 2 was full of middle classed people. Division 2 had a few violators that broke the New Amendment rules, and they were killed by the Sanitizers, robots armed with guns. Lastly, my Division, Division 3, had been full of the wealthy people. The New Amendment stopped all physical human contact outside an individual’s house. We weren’t allowed to leave home, make friends in real life, or even play on the street. …show more content…
“Outside those 30 foot walls?”
“Oliver, don’t worry about it. Be grateful for what we have, and be grateful that we aren’t like Division 2. They always cause our government trouble,” ranted Mom.
“You can’t blame them, Mom,” I retorted, grabbing my virtual reality device. I put on my device, and surely my best friend Tommy, a dark haired, tall, 14 year-old, was on. While playing a funny obstacle course game, I asked Tommy “Do you ever wonder what’s outside your house?” “I think there’s a whole other world out there,” Tommy responded. The mad other players, snarly, and annoyed, on the online server told us to stop talking about things like that or we would be reported. “Tommy join my personal server,” I demanded, frustrated with the other online users. We talked about what could be

The man was tall, strong, and had a bushy beard. I read about him before, he was the Governor.
“Why? Why did you separate all of us?” I shouted. The Governor charged and threw me into the wall. “You think it’s okay right now, but you don’t know, people will always have a darker side to them,” protested the Governor as he hit me again “war, hate, inhumanity, that is what us people are capable of possessing! I made this country great again!”. Then Tommy out of nowhere, slammed the Governor on his side.
“We have to go!” screamed Tommy. I got up on my feet and ran, like a cat being chased by a dog. As I ran, warm blood, fiery, and red, dripped from my face. The ground vibrated and buildings started to crumble, It boomed like a 100 jets taking off at once.
“The device is working,” I chuckled, astonished. Tommy and I held our breaths and ran faster than ever, and we made it to the teleporter. Two years later, our society was rebuilt. A new government formed, deciding to burn the old New Amendment. Divisions 2 and 3 decided to be one whole country after Division 1 fell. I watched all the little children playing on the street in the hot, gleaming, sun. Our country was free after 31 years of being enslaved by technology, and no one was caged in their

As the nation has evolved, the interpretation of the Constitution has varied. While the Sixth Amendment has been largely upheld in most domestic cases, in fact it has routinely been denied to those who are entitled to its protection when the government deems the situation as a threat to national security. This shows us that citizens did not want the government to do whatever they want to do. It also shows that Americans did not want our new government to turn into the government of Great Britain. When America was under the law of England, the king would make up some very unruly and cruel punishments. The people obviously did not like this, therefore they did not want to have another government that had unlimited powers. Amendment 8 prevents the government from creating unfair punishments (U.S. Const.…

My family immigrated to Los Angeles as refugees to escape the Iran-Iraq war, relying on welfare and loans for a better life, but only ending up in bankruptcy. Our home was filled with emotional tension and aggressive exchanges, making it difficult to address the family’s mental health issues brought on by past traumas. The most extreme of which was my sister’s untreated schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Although the youngest, I provided her care throughout my time in high school and college; she required 24-hour care during manic episodes that involved hiding medication in her food and guarding her door to prevent her from running out of the house. My emotional stability and drive to persevere during this period came from an unlikely place:…
