Throughout my experiences with individuals with physical and intellectual challenges, I have been able to develop friendships, meet and uphold skills that I would not be able to learn elsewhere. I love to volunteer! One of my favorite activities of knowing individuals who have Autism is being a volunteer buddy for the Miracle League of the Fox Valley. In fact, I believe each and everyday I learn as much from my Life Skills buddies as I do from me. Despite Justin and Desiree having Autism, this does not define them. Being able to be a buddy with Justin and Desiree definitely brightens my day and is able to put a smile on my face. Justin’s hard work ethic, passion and dedication he brings to class each and every day is certainly undeniable. Throughout my weeks working with Justin I was able to see Justin’s perseverance though his challenges, strives during he accomplishes and his bright personality shine! One experience that I believe showed Justin’s true colors was when he had troubles coming up with examples of activities he enjoyed, rather than giving up, Justin kept working hard. That really shows Justin’s true self and ability to overcome challenges While I have not had the full opportunity to work with Desiree, I have been able to develop skills. Desiree is more soft spoken and held back, she always willing to work hard and try her
