68 days ago I found out I was admitted to The Washington Center Internship Program and now I’m here in Washington D.C. on my own. As I find my way through the city, and figure out that crazy North East and North West division… Ha!, I get excited every time a “FIRST” happens. This is particularly important to me because it can capture the most genuine part of us and create lasting memories. Who doesn’t remember our first day of school? Or maybe our first pet? So as I start this semester, every time a “first” happens, I draw better expectations of the weeks to come.
First time in D.C.
My travel resumé includes great places in Europe like Spain, France, Poland, and Italy. I’ve also visited countries in the Caribbean and cities like New York, Orlando, St. Louis, and Tallahassee. But ever since I was a little kid, I’ve been fascinated with the idea of visiting the Nation’s Capital. Just thinking about the history and significance of this city and its influence in the world; seeing the monuments on TV and Netflix series (which I quickly realized were lying to me, a story for another time) impressed upon me this overwhelming sense of anticipation that I realized when I saw the National Mall across the Potomac from the sky. …show more content…
Well, apart from some volunteering in church, I didn’t have any job experience by the time I got to D.C. and by a job I mean a directly supervised, commute needing, lunch packing, desk, office, and etc… A few days after arrival, I found myself sitting at my desk in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) commercial and trade office in the Embassy of Mexico, specifically on the Economy Ministry.
