Personal Narrative: What I Learned Through My Life Experiences

Improved Essays
In general, what I have learned through my life experiences exercise may not be a priority for the majority of people. Children and teenagers should be getting daily exercise; there are no excuses for them to lead a sedentary life. Young adults in their twenties are usually focused on themselves and their appearance drives them; therefore, the majority achieves their exercise goals. Exercise will probably not be a priority for new parents trying to adjust to the changes they are experiencing now and will continue to experience for the next eighteen years. Their focus will not be on themselves; therefore, allotting time, whether 75 minutes of vigorous or 150 of moderate activity in not likely. Middle age adults who have recently become empty …show more content…
E. class due to health problems. I found my niche in my twenties with lifting weights; however, my heart muscle was not strengthened along with my other muscles. Consequently, my heart muscle was weak. I went through extensive testing on my heart and lungs, through all of this I learned how to breathe while walking, that may sound weird, but I held my breath. Since 2005 I have been on a journey to improve my heart health. I am very proud of my accomplishments I participated in a 10k in Bozeman Montana before we moved to Tennessee. I started out at ten minutes on the elliptical, through perseverance, sweat and tears now I interval train for 30 minutes at a time at an incline of 5 and resistance of 4; furthermore, I have learned how to run on the tread mill and can do that in intervals spaced out over a thirty minute period. My long term goal is to be able to run on the elliptical for 30 minutes at a time.
I chose the 12 minute run test as part of Lab 7b. My rate was low zone, but that is just fine, I am healthier now and my cardiovascular health has greatly improved, my resting heart rate in 2005 was 96 and now is 67. The non-exercise prediction test score is 7.68.
The metabolic equivalent of task (MET) is confusing to me. I do not understand the calculations nor am I willing to put the time into figuring out my number of METS throughout the course of the day. I keep track of my target heart rate during

My key life lessons are that nothing beats hard work and if you treat others with respect, they will generally treat you with respect. Hard work and effort are the main aspects that lead to “lucky” things happening. Good things don’t just fall into people’s laps, the ones that have the most “luck” generally are those that put in the most effort and work. Also, I have learned that when you truly respect those around, they will respect you back and life is much easier when you aren’t doing things behind each other’s backs.…

Introduction: Maximal oxygen uptake, or VO2 max represents the maximum amount of oxygen consumption attainable during all out aerobic exercise, most commonly running on a treadmill. The point at which oxygen consumption plateaus is the individual’s maximal oxygen uptake. If the individual does not plateau, that point is referred to as VO2 peak. VO2 max is measured in milliliters per kilogram of body weight per minute, and there are two ways to measure it, either direct or indirect. The direct method requires the subject to exercise to the extremes of their capability, and indirect methods use sub maximal exercise.…

Our body functions and consumes gas (O2) differently at rest and in motion. Energy requirement to maintain the body’s condition at rest is very different than the energy requirement during maximal exercise. At rest, the muscle intake of gas is very little, but during activity, oxygen consumption is multiples due to the intense oxygen demands of the muscles. Other parameters that are expected to change during exercise are metabolic rate, heart rate and blood pressure, stroke volume, cardiac output, and total peripheral resistance.…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. As Hoeger and Hoeger (2014, P.195) puts it “Cardiorespiratory endurance is the single most important component of health related physical fitness”. The reason why cardiorespiratory endurance is so important is because at its base level it helps us with our daily tasks, such as walking up and down stairs with ease or playing a game of tag with friends at the park, but at elite levels the higher the cardiorespiratory endurance of an athlete can make the difference between a good athlete and a professional athlete (Heyward and Gibson, 2014) Vo2 Max testing is a way in which to accurately record an athlete’s peak aerobic performance levels, the Vo2 Max test analyses the maximal capacity of aerobic work the body can output over a period of time. There are two types of Vo2 Max tests; a continuous and discontinuous test.…

Kenny Lopez 12/10/14 I selected the research article titled “Exercise training increases size of hippocampus and improves memory,” since it provided answers to my questions about Alzheimer’s disease. This article discusses the idea that as people age, the part of the brain that is responsible for forming, organizing, and storing our memories called the hippocampus, shrinks and deteriorates. As a result, people are susceptible to developing Dementia, which causes episodes of forgetfulness. Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common causes of Dementia. Another reason this article interested me is because I enjoy exercising and highly believe that everyone should exercise at any age.…

Hypothesis: Even though the 1.5 mile run test will not produce the highest average VO2 max, the results of the 1.5 mile run test will produce the most accurate VO2 max results as the test puts the most physiological demand on the body compared to the Queens College/McArdle Step Test and the Rockport One Mile Walk Test. Discussion: The Queens College/McArdle Step Test, the Rockport One Mile Walk Test, and the 1.5 Mile Run Test are three different field tests that were performed in this lab that were used to measure and predict an individual’s aerobic capacity. The measurement of aerobic capacity, or VO2 max, is a valid way to assess an individual’s cardiorespiratory fitness level.…

For this health analysis I determined my THR ( target heart rate) using the formula (220-age x .60) and (220-age x .75) ; knowing that my maximum heart rate is 201 and my resting heart rate is 80 bpm .I decided to find out both my current target heart rate as well as my goal target heart rate . I range in the 60%, which makes my target heart rate 120.6 beats per minute. My goal is to be able to reach 75% up to 90% which will then make my goal range 150.75 - 180.9 bpm. I then decided to calculate my body mass index (BMI) online which concluded to 30.2. I range between overweight and obese; a healthy body mass index will be between 18.25 and 24.9, according to WebMD.…
