Personal Narrative: What I Learned In My Class

Decent Essays
From sitting in class the first day to week 10, I have learned so much. My strongest gain from learning in this class is looking inbetween the lines and seeing if the sentance is a opinion, fact, or generalization. this step helps me determine what this articles is going to be, fact or opinion. I also have gotten faster at pointing out the main idea. One of my weakest abilities still is to connect with some topics, if they are too bland or boring its very hard for me to understand what the author is trying to say, by realizing this I can focus more on stories that are harder to connect with and get better at understanding them. In my future i hope to use my knowledge in my work place, I want to work with children and teach them to read and write My biggest strength in reading is looking inbetween what the sentences mean, and why they are there. when I read I look for examples, facts, and opinions to help me understand when the author is trying to say. since starting this class I have seen myself grow by taking better notes, typing a more organized essay, and also faster at reading/thinking things through. My most beneficial skill I think I have learned is to see the main idea quicker then I could before, I know can answer and get more questions right then I could before too. …show more content…
the hardest struggles i have had was with the claims, trying to find them and all the different types of arguments and what not. If I master these skills I will make myself a much better reader, and to help myself in the future finding all the claims and main ideas quicker. I will continue to build my reading education by reading more books and looking up any words I dont understand along the way and think more about what the auther is trying to say, more then what Im trying to

This letter is being written to you, to let you know my thoughts about how much this class has enabled me to grow as a writer and student. As a writer I have many new acquired strengths. One of these newly acquired strengths is that I have the ability to write an essay that assess other author’s pieces of work. Before this class, I wrote very generic five paragraph essays that let the reader know, that the author of a certain piece of work was a good writer and captivated the audience. Now I am able to state the authors’ purpose and the rhetoric terms that he or she uses to get their purpose across to their audiences.…

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

(AG) Lemony Snicket captures the hearts and minds of children at a young age, but how can people in the real world continue the excitement of reading beyond that one author? As the first generation of my family in America, I had a difficult time during my beginnings of reading and writing. Throughout my years, I’ve shown a bit of improvement. I understand that incorporating this foundation is the key to opportunities and understanding. Despite that I sometimes still struggle in this genre, I don’t want to stop developing myself to becoming a better reader and writer.…

What I learned about myself is that I have potential for being a global manager. Looking over the questions, I tend to lack in my experiences more than my actual skills. What I’ve learned is that I can adapt quick and connect with people easily, but I don’t have many experiences in it. To widen my range of experiences I would most likely have to travel more and emerge myself directly into new cultures. I would also have to study different languages a bit more for that is an area I very much lack in.…

My ability to read and to critically think has greatly improved this semester. This is due to the example texts which we read in class. Short stories and excerpts introduced me to different styles of writing and difficulty levels. As we discussed them in class, I found myself comparing them to other texts and thinking about the negatives and positives of each one. I have been able to apply this skill to my own, independent, reading, so that I now think critically of everything I read and read new genres as well.…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

In correlation to what the author of “On Course,” Skip Downing pointed out, I firmly agree that reading is one of the most important skills to obtain. A challenge that I have had for a long time relates to number 19. “I lose concentration, and my mind wanders while I’m trying to read.” I tend to black out while I am reading every once and awhile. This means I have a tremendous amount of thoughts and such that distracts me while I am trying to focus.…

At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…
