Personal Narrative: What I Learned In My Class

This year, Latin was hard, and for a student, hard often means that they did not like the class. My experience could not be further from this common belief. I absolutely loved my time in Advanced Latin II, and it made me enjoy Latin for the first time since seventh grade. Eighth grade Latin was bad. We have certainly alluded to it in class, but we have never truly expressed the terribleness of 2015-2016 Latin I and Ib. Mr. Moore, in 7th grade, was fantastic, but I learned the Latin Ib material by reading my textbook. Going into this year, I was worried that I would be put in the same situation, but Latin II exceeded all of my expectations. The class was interesting and never boring. I loved that we could be extremely productive and learn a lot of material all while having fun and laughing. …show more content…
I thought that the way we learned them was very complicated. In my opinion, we learned too many of them at the same time. A few at a time would not have been a problem, but all at once was a bit much. I think it would be great to teach the datives the same way that the genitives were taught the second time. The genitive syntax chart was wonderful in helping me to understand how the words worked together. We talked about it in the dative lesson, but it would have been very helpful to have it written out in a chart. My favorite thing about this class was the amount we translated. At some times, it was a ton of work that I definitely did not want to do, but I feel that it was incredibly helpful in forming my understanding of the Latin language. I also enjoyed the Quizlet vocabulary. It saved me a huge amount of time because I would have made Quizlet sets anyways. On a side note, I second the idea for a play or acting out Caesar’s Gallic

If I could take one lesson I learned in high school and never forget it, it would be that my challenges and the outcomes to these challenges do not define me. What defines me is how I respond to these challenges.…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

What I Did Not Learn In School Each time we arrive, the rush of nature attacks my senses. Everyone seems so happy to exclaim, “What a beautiful day!” but I prefer wind and rain or snow, which gives me the permission to remain indoors or excitement to venture outside. On those days there are no phones, computers, or television.…

Every day at school goes by great except for when the clock strikes 1:00 p.m. This means it is time for yet another day in English class, which I absolutely dread due to the simple fact of not being good at it. I honestly do not know how this could get any worse. Ever since I had to take English in school, I absolutely despised it.…

Mr. McGee's Senior English was one of the hardest classes that I have ever taken in my high school years. There was a lot of coursework, but along with that he explained it all. Even though the class was hard, it was also very enjoyable. I liked all of our crazy conversations that we had and always "bringing love into it" as Mr. McGee would say. I know there are many things in this class that I possibly could have done better on, and I know there are some things that I have done well.…

In spring of 2017, I had to make my schedule for the upcoming fall semester (Fall 2017). I had already come in my advisors’ office prepared with the class I had already wanted to take. My adviser then told me I could only take 3 of the 4 classes I wanted because I needed to take an EDUC course. In that moment I didn’t know what this class was, all I knew was I needed to take it. Once I got home and sat down I pulled up the Eastfield website so that I could read the course description.…

This past March, I was choosing my classes for my freshman year of high school. My mother and I were looking over the courses offered for first-year students at the high school, when we saw that all students are required to complete a writing course while they attended Bedford High School. There were three options for how I could attend the course. I could take the course; in school during the summer, in school during the school year, or online during the summer. After talking to current high school students and hearing a presentation from guidance counselors, I knew that I should take the class in the summer, so I could take an extra elective and not be stuck with as much homework during the school year.…

Did you know that in the course of one fall semester you can see the leaves change from a vibrant green, to a multitude of colors before they fell to the ground? In English 202 I have watched the seasons change as the semester passed. When signing up for a course as a transfer you don’t quite always know what you are getting into. Consequently, this led to me being blindsided the moment I walked into English and had to get back into the swing of things. At the beginning of the semester it seemed like it would be easy, however I learned quickly that it wasn’t going to get easier, and while though out the semester I improved in my writing on my essays, it wasn’t without its struggles.…
