I learned a lot in one day, but I wish I could have learned it in a different way. Mom took my siblings and I to Dad’s apartment. Dad was tired, as usual, from working a twenty-four hour shift. So as he slept, my brother and sister, being the older ones, got to pick out movies for us to watch. Then, suddenly, my stomach started to twist and turn. Only being five and no bigger than a grasshopper, I did not know what to do about it. I did not want to wake up my Dad about such a trivial matter. Dad puts the blue rubber band thing around my arm. It feels so tight; I don’t like it. Dad searches and searches for the right spot. Then I feel the cold metal pierce my skin. Then I look to my Dad, very confused. I say “Dad ,where did you learn to do

Finding a vein with a needle takes practice and I’m not very good right now. Sue (the phlebotomist) was there to walk me through the steps in case I had forgotten anything. It was my first time on a real person and I was nervous, but there’s only one way to get rid of that nervous feeling and that is to approach it head on. I grabbed the butterfly, the tubes, and the vacutainer holder, along with the gauze, bandaid, alcohol wipe and the tourniquet.…
