Personal Narrative: What I Believe To Be Jesus

Decent Essays
I received a photo the other day in my email. A photo of an image that seems to have a face materialize in the smoke of a cigarette. So I sent a message back to the owner “Andy” for permission to use the photo in a story and a little info about the photo.

He replied, giving permission to use the photo and stated that the photo was of his brother Ron and himself. He said it was taken by Ron’s wife one Sunday afternoon while they were drinking and playing pool in his garage. A few weeks later his brother Ron passed away. He then went on to say that he remembered that he had a throw away camera that had some photos of Ron on it, so he had it developed. He said “I was astonished to see an image in the photo, a image of what I believe to be Jesus.”

On October 21st 1967 Bernie Boston while working for the Washington Star (a well-respected newspaper agency at the time) took the photo that would later define an entire decade. Oddly enough, the photograph was originally rejected by the Washington Star’s editor for being irrelevant and therefore was never published by the Washington Star. The photo earned its reputation when Boston submitted it into several photo competitions. My goal is to give this photograph the chance that the Washington Star never gave “Flower Power”. Within this report, I intend to analyze the image thoroughly, bring to light Bernie Boston’s intentions with this photograph and definitively prove that the Washington Star’s decision was incorrect.…

I have heard your pleas and am pleased to hear about your pursuit of religion. While I would be gladly willing to give you that opportunity, I cannot. I have heard from some of your fellow voyagers of your tyranny actions while exploring throughout these newly found lands. I am happy to hear of your success in finding lands, but I am not glad to hear about the way you have treated their people. The goal was to discover new places, not to ruin them.…

My worldview closely resembles the Biblical Worldview described in the Charry text, but by no means is anywhere near where it could be. My Christian character will continue to develop and mature throughout my life as I continue to study the scriptures, commune with God in prayer, continually ask for repentance, and forgiving those who have showed transgressions toward me. L. Gregory Jones states, “Christian living requires a willingness to inquire after the God of Jesus Christ, an inquiry which shapes us a people of repentance and forgiveness” (Charry, 2000, p. 204). Repentance and forgiveness are two aspects of the Christian walk that I struggle with. There are many times that I get so busy with life that I forget to prayerfully repent…

Christianity has always been a vast part of my life and an abundant part of me. I grew up in a Methodist church, the same one my parents were married in, and where I was baptized. My childhood memories are filled with skipping down the church halls to Sunday school and playing in our chimes and bells groups. Although I am not an extraordinarily talented singer, I was even a member in our children’s choir. I spent many summers at our Grand Mesa Methodist Church Camp and participating in our vacation bible school.…

The Unknown Religion The sun was out, the air was warm, it was the perfect Sunday and my family and I were getting ready to leave for the Gurdwara, also known as the Sikh temple. Ever since my brother and I were children, our parents instilled a weekly routine of attending our local temple every Sunday afternoon. Although some children might say it was boring to sit for ninety minutes listening to hymns, and sermons, I enjoyed going to the Gurdwara. After the sermons, we ate langar, which was a free meal welcome to all, where I was able to eat great food, socialize with my friends, and do seva.…

My mom and dad were both sitting beside me on my bed while I was told the importance of this decision and how my life would never be the same. Even at 5 years old, I was aware of my decision to follow Jesus and accept him into my heart.…
