With pure self discipline, rummaging through my laundry in the dark, I got dressed and tiptoed my way out the door. It was so quiet, I’ve never seen the hallway so empty, it was creeping me out, I noticed as I went down the elevator to the gym. Oh god, let’s do this. Miles or time? Let’s do miles, so if I run faster, I can finish sooner. “ Womanizer, womanizer, womanizer duh duh duh” Britney is such a queen. What test do I have today? I can’t afford to fail but Trent didn’t answer my text, I shouldn’t care but I do and I can’t deal with this family anymore yet I don’t have a choice do I, I’m not sweating yet, it’s already been 10 minutes. I raised the speed while just as I raised the sound, both to the highest level go, go, go. Achieve something Sophie you’re so pathetic, come on, prove yourself faster, faster , faster, almost there. Iclesias Phanord Breaking the Norm I’m surrounded by bouncing basketball and expectations. I had not yet found my vocation. However, many people around me had; whether it was basketball, cheerleading, or track - they had found a purpose that drove them. The norm may not always be the right way to go. I no longer want to be a part of a popular or important group of people, if I feel that what the group is doing or believes in is wrong, even if it means I'm not a part of the norm. I am not afraid to stand out on my own. I have challenged this belief for many years. When I was in elementary school, I was bullied by a group of girls that I hung with, looked up to and idolized.…

One thing I have learned in life is that not everyone will be similar to me. Other people will most likely have different values, experiences, and perspectives on life. When I was much younger, I dreaded meeting new people who I shared nothing in common. I feared we would not get along and this would lead to problems. However, my exposure to disparate people in sports, school, and work has helped me broaden my horizons and be better prepared to relate to others in the future.…
