Media and Journalism sometimes ask the question: what does it mean to be an American? The straight up answer would be that an individual born with in the boundaries of the United States boarders is a citizen. This brings up questions; however, when illegal immigrants have a child with our boarder. Then do we constitute that the parents must become citizens of our country in order to stay with the child or do we deport the parents and the child, who under the constitution is an American citizen. Little bit of Yankee, little bit of Ya’ll. Maybe a catchy t-shirt slogan, but not necessarily untrue. Having lived half my life in both New England and the South, I often feel like a combination of my two home experiences. This can be a little unsettling: up North, I’ve “turned Southern”, but down South, I’m definitely a Northerner. Though sometimes difficult, I’ve grown to like the alternate viewpoints I’ve gained living in different locations.…

They gave us the worst immigration system in the world, one that imports immobility, one that drives down employment and wages for Hispanic Americans, for African Americans and for everyone, an immigration system that favors illegals over those trying to go through the process legally and, at times, even over law-abiding citizens. It was Bernie Sanders himself who warned that a large tide of new workers keeps wages low and poverty high. The other party gave us public schools that far too often fail our students, especially those who have no options. Growing up, my siblings and I we were truly fortunate to have choices and options that others don't have.…

There is a topical ongoing debate in society about whether citizenship is becoming an outdated notion in the 21st century. Citizenship refers to the “state of being vested with the rights, privileges and duties of a citizen” (Dictionary, 2016). In the last century, the concept of citizenship has altered drastically and in addition, there is now more then one type of citizenship in existence. Until the modern era arrived, there were only two types of citizenship; natural born or naturalised. A natural born citizen refers to “a citizen being born in the state and a naturalised citizen is a person whom moved to the country post-birth”…

On Citizens Citizenship can be defined in the Oxford Dictionary as “A legally recognized subject or national of a state or commonwealth, either native or naturalized. ” I do not completely agree with this definition. I think a citizen is someone who, for example, does service for their community, pays taxes or anything else that supports the community or country in which they live. So if someone’s actions do not benefit their community, I don’t consider them a citizen; but if someone’s actions do benefit their community, I do consider them a citizen. Could you still be considered a citizen if you do all these things without being a legal citizen?…
